Steinhart – love 'em or loathe 'em....

....you can't fault the company when they facilitate a custom request, for no other reason than they agree to.

For some of you, the images below will be instantly recognisable, and give rise to furrowed eyebrows as you try to figure out how a model from a couple of years ago, is unique or special.
As indicated, the Ocean Two was released and sold in 2013, and whilst the Yellow and Orange version were not limited editions, once they sold out, that was the end of them.
Back then, the Premium models (ETA 2824 replaced with Soprod A10, and solid case back with a display version, so as to be able to view and appreciate the nicely decorated movement) had not been introduced, and when it was, only Blue or Black options were available.

A few weeks back, as a result of seeing a Yellow one for sale, and subsequent researching revealing the existence of an Orange one, with a dark teal blue dial, I contacted Steinhart and simply asked if they could entertain my request for the Orange model.
Job done, request granted, pro-forma invoice received.....except I'd made a blunder. The price was for the original version, but I'd presumed it'd been replaced with the Premium....er, nope!
So a subsequent request to have it made using the Premium model as the foundation meant having to wait the best part of almost two weeks for approval and confirming the parts (presumably the A10 and case back) were available.

But, here we are now, and I feel confident (and extremely privileged) that I may possibly have the only official Orange Ocean Two Premium – I haven't asked, but am presuming such previous custom requests would've been mentioned during the course of discussion.

Is its performance very accurate? I mean the A10.

Too soon to be definitive, but since arriving last Wednesday, it's sitting at a total of +5 secs.

If it's that accurate over long run then it's really down to how the company reacts to any warranty claims and future parts availability.

For me, I like alternatives - had several Ball swatches for example. Sold each one as it approached warranty expiration because of their restrictive parts availability policy. They would not sell them to my CW21 watchmaker for any repairs.

I bought this Ocean One "Premium" Blue from Steinhart about a month ago for little over $500.

The watch has the Soprod A10 movement in it and is getting +0.5 seconds a day out of the box. The watch is stunning looking, the fit and finish of the case and dial work rivals my 16610. The bracelet it very nice, but the clasp doesn't match up in quality to it.

The A10 hand winds very easily and is very smooth, the crown screws in and out with few revolutions. Crown and stem is very stable, absolutely no wobble at all. Movement is nicely decorated with perlage and blue screws. The Ceramic bezel is uni-directional 120 click, and is very solid and precise, and has absolutely no wobble at all, in fact it is more solid then my 16610.

While the watch has a 42mm case to differentiate it from a Sub, and has a triangle lume marker instead of a pip, it still looked too much of a homage to me. I promptly replaced the oyster bracelet with Staib mesh. No one will confuse this watch as a Rolex now, and it is of enough quality to stand for itself.

Simply put, it is the very best watch you can purchase new for $500. it rivals watches costing 4 to 5 times as much.

Why would there be parts availability problems for a Ball watch with an ETA movement in it?

The movement isn't the only thing that needs work at times. He wouldn't be ordering the ETA parts from them, but other parts are unique.

Wow, you must be really tough on your watches to have to require spare parts??

What are you talking about, bezel, crown??

The stupid trip-lock lever (if equipped with one) has been known to come off on some watches. That's a ball only part. And of course tritium does have a half life... however would understand if they are tightly controlling tubes, hands and dials.

Never thought about the tritium tubes going south, now I understand, thanks for replying.

Thank you, I am – and will continue to do so.

Thus far, with a combination of wearing it and positioning it, when off, overnight it's 2 seconds fast.

I'm looking at picking one of these up right now. Want to test the feel and quality. Anyone had additions or opinions on this piece or other Steinhart pieces?

In just a few days ago . . . so far I believe Steinhart made a huge mistake by under charging me by at least a grand (I paid $514 from factory to doorstep), love it!!!

Love me the Steinhart.
Beautiful looking watches, fantastic quality, amazing bang for buck, and some of the best customer service I have dealt with.
Other than personal opinion it'd be tough to not have one in your stable lol

I think I've spent around $2K on my four Steinharts. With my OCD about scratches/dings I feel zero guilt wearing these especially with the work I do which tends to be hazardous to a watches well being :)

I think they're great watches for the price. I had an Ocean One Military for a while and liked it a lot, but it fell victim to downsizing. Luckily, I sold it to a coworker, so I still get to see it every day.

That’s a superb Python strap you have fitted on the bronze pilot.
