VC Overseas Chrono vs AP Royal Oak Chrono- My specific issues
I purchased a 42mm Royal Oak Offshore Chrono (AP 26470) just after the revised model clear case back and movement visualization. I really like the watch. I am a big chrono fan even though I do not use the chrono function all that often..
Well I decided i wanted a nice thin-- sport like chrono and I already owned the IWC 3777 pilot. I ended up getting a VC Overseas Chrono not too long ago. I like the general appearance and design of the pushers--- and it has a fairly decent water resistance rating. I would never likely purposely take it into a pool or other major water source. I had considered a Royal Oak Chronograph (AP 26320) instead of the VC but thought perhaps it would be too similar to my ROO Chrono. Nonetheless I was at a shop the other day and say a few of the Royal Oak Chronos in person (had seen them before) and said wow I forgot the contrast and clarity of the dial and sub dials on this model. I don't need glasses to easily read The one thing I don't like about the VC overseas is the relatively poor contrast making it hard to read the sub dials. I need another watch and for that fact a chrono--- like i need a whole in my head so i am wondering if i should flip the VC Overseas Chrono and go for the Royal Oak Chrono. My VC Chrono is the anthracite grey dial and my ROO chrono is the black dial with white numerals and red accents. I do not want to part with the ROO chrono. Ok so a bit long winded.. Any opinions? |

I would keep the VC for variety but thats just me.
Grab a Daytona if you want something different but IMO one Royal Oak chrono is good enough. PS maybe next year they will make an in-house ROC with display back. Might be worth waiting for. |

Also, the VC movement is not exactly in-house, either. I believe it's a modified JLC. The VC line doesn't have the Geneva stamp as a result.

Don't they both have the same movement?

Is the AP RO an in-house movement? I am debating which one (VC or AP) to get. Either one would be my grail.

I would and did get the ROC. I too think the dial is very clear and very well crafted and I think flipping the VC for esp the blue or white dial would be a great move. And yes they both have the same F Piguet mvmnt so flipping also makes perfect sense. Here's a pic of the clear crisp dial... and as my man Thomas below says gold is always a nice option.

VC Overseas Chrono vs AP Royal Oak Chrono- My specific issues
Quote:
From one chronohead to another, the ROC and ROO are pretty close. I love my VC and my AP and have been very tempted to get a ROO. But in the end I always conclude that they are so close that it doesn't significantly expand the reach of my collection. So your situation is similar and a ROC would give you the same movement as your VC with less WR. So if it's in your budget, a 5980 is always a correct answer. If not, perhaps a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms (maybe blue) or Daytona (white to round out the collection)for a sporty chrono? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

There are some really good points and logic listed in all of your comments. I agree the RO and ROO are similar. I think if i was starting over I might have selected the RO Chrono instead of the VC but at this point not worth flipping. I do agree that the gold version of RO chrono looks fantastic. I tend to prefer non-gold watches. I have a Lange and FPJ in rose gold --- no steel options. In terms of the Patek 5980--- just got the 5990 so won't go there at the moment. Nevertheless, this is one of the first threads that convinced me or did not enable to get a new piece… :) So thanks to all
