Water drop macros (how to and gallery)...

Many of you WIS here may not know it but if you have a smartphone and a bottle of water you have the tools to take some very nice extreme macro shots. It's pretty simple...

Pour a few drops of clear water into the cap or onto any non-porus surface.

Start your camera app and turn your phone over so the lens is pointing up. Make sure the lens is clean and free from smudges or debris. If you have a case that covers the lens take it off.

Using your finger, pick up a drop of water and carefully place it on the lens. Water tension will keep it from running off. The drop should be big enough to cover the entire surface of the lens but not big enough to drop off when you flip over the phone.
It should look like a frisbee not a half dome.

Carefully flip over the phone and get it clise enough to your subject for the camera to focus. Resting your subject and hands on a stable surface will help.

You can experiment with different drop sizes to get different magnifications.

The center will generally be pretty sharp but the edges will be soft depending on how much light and water you're using.

Here is my gallery...

Pretty cool. I will have to try it. Thought about trying one of the cheap macro clip on deals off of amazon for the iPhone.
