Hawaii ADs - SS GMT II c price

Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone can help me. With the Australian dollar close to parity with the US dollar, it almost makes sense for me to fly from Sydney to an Hawaiian AD to pick up a new GMT IIc. They cost AUD $8,790 here, around US $8,475.

What is the MRSP of a U.S. SS GMT IIc these days?

I'm excited i may get a chance to purchase a GMY II c at a decent price, and maybe throw in a 3 day holiday in process, without breaking the bank. Well, without breaking it too much.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Joey

If you come over let me know, I'll take you to a few ADs here. They refuse to discount, but they have a ton of selection. SS GMT IIs are still hit or miss to find, but I did see one in the window of an AD in Waikiki the other day.

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the speedy reply; much appreciated.

If i go on an Aloha holiday for 3 days in Hawaii, including food and accomodation, it's bang on the same price of buying the GMT here! I'll go talk to the missus!

Once again, muchas gracias. KansaiVet thank you for the offer of taking me to the ADs. It's awesome to have local knowledge and hospitality given to a tourist.

Oh, tempting! I'll have a think about it. Very kind offer thanks. I have the Pepsi, but thinking of flipping it as i love the sturdiness of the IIc (bracelet, triplock, etc) and it's still got the must have - the dual time zone function

Joey,

If I'm still correct, the tax in Hawaii in 4.25% If you want to venture further 5hrs to Oregon there is not tax.

BTW you will allways have the memories of where you bought your watch.

KansaiVet,

BB Pearlridge has a SS GMT II. I tried it on last week. Trying it on the supercase ain't that bad. I'm getting used to the look. It may still be there.

Hey Joey,

I bought my Sub-Date from an AD in Waikiki in late March and at that time I didn't have to pay the sales tax. According to the salesperson, tax usually needs to be paid but they were having a special to the end of the month of no tax at that time. Saved me about $300.00 US.

I bought my Pepsi GMT ll from the BB in Pearlridge in late April and paid full MSRP plus the sales tax. BB wouldn't discount off MSRP or tax.

KansaiVet and Fear,

I hope whoever bought the GMT ll-C at BB in Pearlridge didn't get the one with the off-center crown on the rehaut that I saw in April It was almost on marker to the left of the center.

Let me know if you guys want to go on a Rolex excursion one day. Maybe we can meet up. I'll be pretty busy up until summer time though.

Joey,

Good luck with your pursuit of the GMT IIc. My wife and I have been to Hawaii about six times as a stop-off, but have not been there now for a few years. I would love to get back there during 2009.

Please keep Kansaivet (Tom) in mind if you do travel there. Tom is a great bloke too.

Best of luck,
Michael

That's what I truly like about TRF, there are so many genuine and truly nice members that will offer to go out of their way to assist others.

Tom is one such bloke. Tom, I hope to meet up with you during 2009 too.

Michael

Me too.

The Aloha State would be a great place for a TRF Convention.

Okay, so how do we get this off the ground? I'd recommend the following;
  • Someone local that can talk the talk,
  • Ability to organise a suitable venue at 'no cost' to TRF members,
  • Suitable weather conditions,
  • Suitable and 'price reduced accommodation' from major hotel chain,
  • Plus, some day trip activities thrown in like skin diving or bird watching,
  • Please don't tell JJ about the proposed bird watching - he'll probably watch those flightless birds and I'm not speaking about Kiwi Birds either.

Hawaii would be a great place for a convention considering that it is somewhat between Australia/Asia Region and USA. It may be a bit of a 'long haul flight' from the UK and Europe though.

The last time I was in Hawaii there was a huge Dentist Convention and hotel accommodation was very tight. So, if Dentists can do it why can't we as TRF members do it.

What's everyones' thoughts on a late 2009 Convention for Forum Members in Hawaii? If Hawaii is not for everyone, there is always, dare I say it, New Zealand and go sheep watching instead.

......and for those that flip a watch or two....this could be considered a business expense.....( yeah, like that would really work).>>(but it sounded good when I thought of it....)

Once again, thanks everyone for the awesome information. It means a lot to me. You're right about the TRF member qualities, Oscar. Can't be beat.

Swatty, it's an '88 Pepsi in beautiful condition, bought in Sydney off a Swiss watchmaker in CBD. I may hold onto it because it's truly a classic look. I know it has the same functions as the GMT IIc, but chalk and cheese in looks. Hence i would love to keep both if i can afford to. If i decide to sell, will PM you.

Thanks.

Can we start a new thread about doing a TRF convention? Or maybe just a "meeting" in Hawaii?

All of this talk of Hawaii & Rolex has me excited about this possibility!
