Opinions in 6202
Hi All,
I am about to pull the trigger on this 6202 and just wanted to hear any input on the dial/hands/bezel. Almost looks too good to be true. Seller believes they are all original, but would just like to hear your expert options. Best, Mike |

I'm not loving those hands .........
I don't own a 6202 - I just lust for one so I'm happy to be corrected here.
I'm thinking the hands may be a misfit - incorrect for the reference or even after-market. Pencil hands featured on perhaps half the 6202s but that very thick hour hand / thin minute hand just doesn't seem right. Original 6202 gilt pencil hands are thin, with hour and minute a similar thickness to each other, and is the lume-filled triangle at the end also incorrect ? A slight difference in hour and minute thickness can be seen on 6202 sets where the set includes a sweep with the circle at the end. Not the big difference in thickness that we see in Mike's pics though. And on a 6202, the tip of the minute hand should probably line up nicely with the chapter ring. I have a loose set of hands as seen in Mike's pics (gilt pencils with lume triangles). I understood that they are from a Rolex Majestic Observatory or a similar era bubble back. |

dial is a service one (should be swiss only), I have seen this watch around for a long time, I would be cautious.

Does anyone have any good resources for 6202 dial information? My googling attempts have not been very successful.

6202 dial resource ...
Quote:
To get you started, there are half a dozen examples to see on the VRF dial resource. Just jump on the VRF home-page and then navigate to ..... Vintage Rolex Dial Archive .... and then Turn-O-Graph Dials I think the dial in the OPs watch may be an AOK service dial but that will bite into the watches value. Best to just pay more and get an all original example I say. A real challenge to find original issue 6202 dials and hands too but they are out there - I have a few 6202 goodies in my spares. If you're buying sight unseen, be aware too that a 6202 wears smaller on the wrist than a similar era Sub or GMT - more like a 6610 or 1016 Explorer. |
