I can't believe I'm asking this. I've read fashion forums and opinions on the internet and still can't make up my mind.

I've always had brass buttons on a blue blazzer. I'm thinking about switching to silver, mainly because brass seems outdated although traditional.

I figured you guys would have an opinion. So. Brass or silver buttons on a blue blazer?

I'm 42 if that makes a difference.

A traditional navy blazer has brass buttons- As much as I hate gold color, it works on a navy. I have another shade of blue with silver buttons but I don't think I would do it for navy

Gold would be the choice for a traditional look.
If you like a more contemporary look, go with horn or mother of pearl.

I went with a gun metal grey that look very sharp. Brass stands out too much in my opinion

There is nothing more traditional then a blue blazer, buttons and all... but some of the deal breakers that work are silver, bone, and shell

Brass is very in right now. Blue blazer with brass buttons can definitely be pulled off now, tomorrow and the day after. It's as classic a look as they come.

It's how you wear it. Accessories, the rest of the outfit etc make it as usual

This is a serious issue but I don't think your 42 chest size makes any difference.

I would change the buttons depending on the watch no question.

St/St, YG, WG, TT, Pt etc.

Before I make a final decision are we talking single or double breasted?

I don't see why you couldn't replace the brass with silver, maybe a matt silver. You'd be messing with a 150 years of tradition and Thurson Howell III would roll in his grave but what the heck..

I saw a very nice Ralph Lauren Black Label dark navy (like 1 step above black) blazer with flat silver buttons at Neiman Marcus that I thought was very classy. I would've bought it myself if I hadn't gone in to get a full suit. Here's a picture online:

I replaced my buttons with rolex watch heads. I don't know if anyone notices the colors any longer.

I changed mine to pewter, which is like dull silver. Silver matches my watch, belt buckle, and metal bits on my Gucci loafers.

It probably does not matter if all of your metal matches, but you should try to match most of it. I used to wear a TT DJ because it went with both brass and silver. The perfect solution.

If you want to give a blue blazer a more up to date slant, get a side vent model and have it tailored for a modern fit. It will look great with a smart pair of dark blue jeans.
