Ray Ban Etching

I was shopping for a pair of Ray Bans and noticed that some sunglasses have "RB" laser etched on the inside of the left lens and others on the outside.

Does anyone know if this signifies a difference?

It's been some 25 years, I guess, since Ray Ban started etching the lenses with the logo, but it's always been on the outside as far as I could tell.

Prior to that, there was simply a very light almost invisible "B-L" etched on each lens.

I never bought another pair after they put the "Ray Ban" on the lens, though--too tacky for me.

This may be of help.

Maybe it is to reduce counterfeiting. I've never seen this on Ray-Bans but etching in the lens is pretty cool and done on some other makers. If you're buying from an authorized retailer I would likely want this.

i am giving up on Raybans after nearly 30 years. Ever since they were bought out by Luxotica...

I have cracked -3- pairs at the temple in the last 2 years. 2 of them in last 6 months. They used to have great customer service. Now they want to nickle and dime you when you send something back to them. For $150-$200, you can stand up to more than riding around in my cars (in their case!) and sitting in my suit pocket.

Pissed.

Agree...not the same since B & L sold the line. They used to be made in the USA and were excellent quality with nice glass lenses.

funny thing is, is you can get fakes with this etching on the lens too, I can't wait to pick up my B&L vintage RayBans soon, found some at a thrift shop, just waiting for them to get a price for me(they let me go through all their stock and find what I want)

OT but I would only buy Ray Bans or Persols pre-Luxxotica. Luxxotica's business practices are questionable at best and it boggles my mind how they were able to create an eyeglass wear monopoly in the US. You can find quality vintage Ray Bans on ebay when you look for Bausch and Lomb. They used to be build way more substantial at a fraction of today's price.

Your glasses are too small. You need a wider bridge size. Very hard at most retail outlets to find anything bigger than a 55 or 56 (look for this number on the inside left temple. You are probably like me and need a 59-60. RayBan makes them, but they don't stock many at most stores and you have to order them.

Someone did a program on Luxotica. Their mark-up was obscene!

I've transitioned to prescription glasses now. Frames come with polarized dark clip-ons that I use only for driving and the prescription lenses are Transitions with all associated coatings.

I'm always good to go. :-D
