Icon6 What about this then? 1926 Waltham full hunter.

I inherited my Grandfathers watch on turning 21.

I have never really taken any photos of it before but i thought i would share it with you! Sorry there not very good, i dont get much time for this kind of thing, and its dark in here!

See what you think, and any information about would be wonderfully recieved,

Now from what i know.

The watch was manufactored in America at the Waltham watch company, around 1910/12. Records are not kept from around this time, and it is believed to have been shipped to England for sale, specifically London to a jewelers that delt in Waltham watches. This was around 1915 It was bought and engraved in 1926 with E Walsh (no relation)

Sometime after it must have been purchased by my grandfather.

The watch is inscribed E Walsh May 20, 1926

case serial num,

858316
xx

In the rear case back it has been marked,

_
B2/7/59 FINE GLASS ONLY
By hand

also
MM10238
by hand

stamp in rear of caseback reads

MOON
trade (sun) mark
(moon) (sun)

A.L.D
DENNISON
Watch Case Company LTD

858316

Inside mech cover reads.

ENGLISH MAKE GUARENTEED TO BE MADE OF TWO PLATES OF 10CT GOLD WITH PLATE OF COMPOSITION BETWEEN AND WEAR 20YRS 858316
20
O

It was damaged in the war when my grandad had it, and was roughly repaired.

The mechanism is inscribed

A.W.W.CO
WALTHAM U.S.A

and elcewhere mech number 24663043

The amaising thing is considering its history, it keeps resonable time, loosing only 9 seconds every 72 hours!!

I know its not realy eeryones cup of tea, but it was made over 90 years ago!!

Hope you enjoy and it dosent bore you too much

I was hoping someone on here may know somthing about waltham watches, the factory is no longer going as could be expected. The watch needs a new spring for one of the covers, and i cant get one anywhere,

Glad you liked the post though

shedlock:

I did a google search and came across this site:

http://www.waltham-community.org/WalthamWatch.html

Maybe it can help you get additional information about your watch. BTW, a beautiful watch.

I had an almost identical Waltham, not sure about the year, same engraving work and same face, my parents gave it to me when I turned 16, I gave it to my eldets son when he turned 16, must check with him, tomorrow, that he has kept it safe. Hopefully he has! They are are work of art!

I hope it continues to be safe and sound. I used mine quite a lot in the past. I have always been somewhat eccentric, and a pocket watch was no big leap for me. It kept great time, but you do have to keep winding it of course.!!
