Anyone else diversify so he has a less commonly seen watch?

Just curious if anyone else cares to diversify to have a few more time pieces that are more rarely seen in the wild.
Was having a discussion with a friend, who has called it a day with Rolex because of this.
He owns 5 Rolexes, and wishes to diversify to AP and PP to own watches that are less commonly seen/more exclusive.
I do agree that most Rolexes can be seen in the wild pretty often; They are a mass production and many people out there wear the same watch you do, but this doesn't bother me the least bit personally.

How about you?

I only collect Rolex and I pride myself on owning pieces that I never see on display. When I walk into Rolex at the Wynn for example, none of my stuff is out. Sometimes to mess with the guys I'll scan the place and say there's nothing I like. Then I'll name a few pieces and he'll say sorry we don't have any of those. I like that.

I only own Rolex, but I did buy a vintage piece and so from that standpoint it's less common

Absolutely! More about under the radar for me. Plus the quality is nice.

Thanks to the OP for this thread, it's given me a push in a direction I've been contemplating. Nothing against Rolex, I have three, listed below; but I have something a bit different in mind, a known piece but not often seen.

As heretical as it may seem among the members here, I'm thinking of parting with my Sub to make room. Thanks, you've moved me a bit closer ( but it still is very difficult to part with any, I like them so..).

By the way, to Seth on that braceleted Vacheron chrono and Tom for the Aquanaut, bravo, just fantastic pieces

Nice Pam collection

To the OP; I've had 4 Rolex, 2 subs c with date, LN and LV, a BLNR and a 116515 Daytona, I flipped them for other reasons than them being around a lot, but I love having a Patek 5712 that apart the WIS community most people don't know about, the only remark I've had on 1 year was "is that a Royal Oak?" so yes for me having a "rare" watch, not in the Patek world but in the real world is a definite plus for me

I've gone the other way, I deliberately stayed away from Rolex and owned many different brands before I bought a Rolex and then another and now I'm not very interested in many other brands any more.

Fully agree.

I like brand diversity. I'd like to have a Rolex in my collection, but no more than one.

I had at the same time 3 Rolex, 3 Pams, 1 Patek, 1 Blancpain, 1 Cartier, 1 Omega, all are gone except for the Patek, also the Omega and Cartier which I don't wear but were presents from my mother and grand mother, I went to my Rolex AD not long ago, tried a few models, and realized I had no desire whatsoever to get one

I know i might be in the minority here but this is one reason I don't buy a Rolex… too common and also makes one more of a target for theft

I might incline towards AP but I love to try and often buy other brands, including very obscure ones. Here's my Moser watch. I think they make fewer than 2000 pieces a year.

The vast majority of my collection consists of Lange's and Pateks and I dare say, 98% of the population has no clue what's on my wrist (and I'm fine with that )
