Reputable Pre-Owned Dealer
I am new to Rolex and looking to buy a late model TT Blue Sub or TT GMT - can't spring for a new one and want to make sure I don't get ripped off.
Please share your experiences if you have purchased pre-owned and who the reputable shops are. Also, is there a "blue book" reference that I could use to make sure I pay a fair amount for both parties? Lastly, any experience with http://preownedrolex.com/ ? Thank you in advance. Eric p.s. - any idea why I can not post in the classified section? |

You have to have 15 posts before you can sell anything in the forum. www.preownedrolex.com is a good place with a reputable seller. He is a member here as well and well regarded.

A Dealer review
Here's my take on this as I am sitting here with my 1991 TT DJ with blue dial on my wrist for the first time.
I bought mine from this company per another thread I read earlier. http://www.demesy.com/ When I called them I had my heart set on one on the web site with a Blue dial and Roman numerals. When "Joe" came on the phone he had to tell me that when the watch was being serviced a scratch had got on the dial and they had replaced it with a Blue dial with stick markers. I hemmed and hawed and went back to look at the page but didn't want another. (you guys know how THAT goes!) I called him back with only 30 minutes to spare. He told me of a few options but also let me know that the watch I had decided on was the best value out of all the options, some were higher and some lower. I pulled the trigger, said yes and He got it all took care of, billed and shipped out night before last so it arrived in Vermont yesterday before noon. Here's one of the kickers that impressed me. Joe had already made the deal, all taken care of and time to hang up, He told me, "Lenny, if you want the other dial within the near future, Send it back and we will change the dial. I affirmed for free and he said , Yes, Completely Free, all parts and labor. And Yes the watch is perfect ! If you do use them tell em I recommended him. Lenny |

The main thing you need to ask anyone you're buying a pre-owned from is whether ANYTHING on the watch is aftermarket or has been refinished. This kills the value of the watch, and even though it may look good, once you become more aquainted with Rolexes you'll resent your frankenwatch. Or at least I did anyway. Lesson learned.

Watchmasters....
As a TRF member and kind of "experienced"--I will vouch for Stuart at Watchmasters in Virginia--he stands BOLDLY behind his product and his work. Flawless workmanship on Rolex watches.

I was in the exact same situation as you are - a year and a half ago. I bought several books, read everything I could, bought bergeon tools to take off the back and band, annoyed my jeweler to no end and learned a lot about Rolex watches. Then I bought several watches from ebay and returned several with fake parts. I ended up with the watches I wanted for the price I wanted. I know it's a large investment in time, but it did pay off for me.

Excellent thread, especially for a newbie like myself. Many thanks for your opinions. I haven't taken the plunge for a Rolex yet, although threads like this are great for getting opinions on who to deal with if I decide to go the grey dealer route.

Swiss Wrist
I bought a Two-Toner Submariner from Dan Cohen at swiss-wrist.com, great company, amazing watch. Probably the best source for pre-owned rolex watches online.
