Near Vertical Take-Off

Here is a link to a video showing a near vertical take-off of a 787-9 dreamliner. This would be fun and teach all of those people who like to get out of their seat a lesson when they find themselves sitting on the wall in the back row :p

I would just about crap myself if the pilot pulled that on takeoff

After the impressive start the rest of the display is dull as dishwater.

Not sure what the purpose of this is. Perhaps Boeing is introducing the self-serve drink cart. But cool nonetheless for a behemoth passenger plane to be able to pull this maneuver.

Writing as someone who is sh*t scared of flying (and I fly on average four times a month on business), I'd be inclined to punch the pilot in the nuts for pulling a stunt like that. Not amused.

What purpose? Because it can!! Some Boeing commercial planes have military counterparts. And those counterparts must be able to climb quickly if needed.

Probably the Max Climb Rate is over 6000ft/min

Plane was probably empty of passengers and the camera was set up to photograph this test flight. Lighter plane = more power.

Cool - I saw that as well.

Reminds me of the stuff Tex Johnson used to do as a Boeing test pilot. Google his name and barrel roll and you'll see what I mean.

The purpose of these extreme flight exhibits is to demonstrate the aircraft's capabilities at the limit. Primarily to buyers. Most folks would be amazed at what commercial airliners can do.

Of course I wasn't questioning why they would actually conduct this maneuver and display it to the public, but rather why engineer this capability, at considerable expense I'd imagine, in a passenger plane. To the extent this plane evolved from a military aircraft you make a good point. Perhaps it also is simply a byproduct of engineering short take-off capabilities into the aircraft, which of course has very practical applications for commercial passenger aircraft.

I still think it's Boeing introducing DIY beverage service.

I saw this video earlier this week and was blown away. Incredible and such a beautiful aircraft.

Try it with 300 passengers, 80 tons of fuel and baggage.

I'm not sure Boeing would publish that video. It's one hell of an aircraft.

I think the whole video is awesome they really look like they just float like a small fighter plane, very different to other commuter jets. That said would love to see one of those old DC8 clunkers that have done a billion miles in the US pull something like this.......
