Because they are not usually true watch entusiasts who would appreciate either a high-quality Japanese quartz watch, OR a high-quality Swiss mechanical watch.
They want the name and flash, without having to lay out the cash. Time keeping is not a real concern. That's Seiko is pretty nice though - 40mm too! |

You are right. I would rather have a genuine Seiko (which I have) than a folex. I have the Seiko model that looks like the TT DJ datejust with a jubilee bracelet. It scratched my Rolex itch until I could purchase the real thing. It is now my weekend beater when I have chores or some other unpleasant task to do. Got to hand it to it though -- it keeps great time!

Interesting discussion. I would not buy a cheap Rolex knockoff, but I'd buy an homage. Bill Yao of mkii watches has a good reputation and he creates homages to Rolex, Blancpain, Benrus.... I would definitely buy his watches. Here are examples. From other forum discussions the Orange hand Explorer a mock-up, future release.

Homages are better than Folexes.

No shame in a Seiko quartz. I've got a white dial version of the one you posted, with a smaller (36-37mm) case, styled to look a bit like a DJ, though I didn't realize that for decades. A friend lent it to me over 25 years ago, told me to keep it when I returned it. I wore it daily for something like 20 years, changed the battery when it stopped, otherwise no service at all. It's still sitting in my desk drawer, keeping better time than any of my auto watches (including the Rolexes). Seikos have a different appeal than a Rolex, in the same way that an Accord has a different appeal than a Porsche, but they're very honest, quality pieces.
