May I please have moderator feedback?

Hi!

I attempted to post in the Vintage forum following all rules and procedures.

Moments later, I found I'd inadvertently violated a guideline.

While the post was still in your moderation queue, I made an introductory post and reported myself to mod staff to ask for help with my mistake.

A moderator very kindly edited out my gaff and allowed my post to go through. I saw it, didn't touch it, and got on a train to visit family, hoping to see some replies later.

Within a few hours, it was moved out of the Vintage forum with a redirect that I didn't have access rights to follow.

I appealed using the contact us form Friday evening, asking only that I be informed what mistake I've made - and I submitted no demands nor claimed any rights.

I've received no reply.

I tried to post very respectfully and within all guidelines I could find here at the time I'd posted (and honestly, it's not like they're all in one place ok).

So - may I speak to a moderator about how to post to get the help I need?

Or ought I consider myself unwelcome here and not worth a response?

Your house, your rules - I just don't think I did anything to deserve a decision reversal without some help or word nor do I think that I deserve the silent treatment.

If someone made a decision along the lines of - "He knows what he did!" - then I'm here to plea that, no, I don't.

Thank you. :)

Thanks for using the Feedback Boards.. I've reviewed your post as you requested.

Your post was a sales pitch as you stated in the body: "Objective: help my son sell his grandfather's Rolex."

Sales, veiled attempts to sell, or discussion of a sale are strictly limited to the For Sale boards.

Thank you for the feedback! That I can understand perfectly.

Yeah - I did that.

And I did it because I did not want to be read as trying to Huck Finn anyone with some form of a sneaky sales pitch.

Here's the thing - as you can see from the history of dealing with others when knowing zero about this field, I don't know who to trust to get an appraisal.

As I said in my post, I hoped to get some information first and eventually (qualify) to post in your classifieds.

So - while I completely botched it, I was going for the opposite of a veiled attempt at anything.

Is there any way - without playing Mr Loophole or even being perceived that way - that I can repost and ask for the info I need?

I hope I'm clear - I'm not looking to get around the rules with fancy words - none of us has time for that.

I need help, I don't know where to turn, and I just want to be a good member and do it right.

I didn't post in classifieds in the first place because we don't know how to put a value on the thing.

It seemed to me that if I tried for a classified without a price or range or something that that would look just like an auction (it would to me on my other sites) - and so that's why I didn't even try for classifieds.

If I'm at a dead end, I'll understand and hold no hard feelings for your site or the help.

I simply not motivated to be sneaky or break rules - and it seems that's exactly what I walked into while trying to do the exact opposite. :-(

One way of achieving your goal is to :

* become a pledge member.
* list your item for a value similar to results shown in a simple google search
* invite feedback via PM from members as to whether the price is fair.

Thanks!

The simple Google search wasn't simple for me - it took a long time to find one like my son's and it didn't have a price. And that was a huge victory because one dealer tried to tell us that Rolex never made one like this.

Tools was kind enough to set me straight on the rough value via PM - and honestly, we were nearly in shock. It was a factor of ten different than another dealer that we also began to suspect.

I'm really a bumpkin in this whole area - but - after realizing the monetary value and sharing it with my boy, my son is now thinking of trying to have it properly restored, keeping it, and hand it down to his lad, now 8.

Which in my book would be the ideal way to go.

So, he's got some decisions and soul-searching to do on this.

If it's a keeper for him, I think I'd like to just post the picture of the watch close up (and really little or nothing more) in the The Gratuitous "Every Day is Vintage Day" Photo Thread as perhaps others might enjoy seeing a 1949 Oyster 1007, warts and all, and let that be a contribution to the community in return for you and Tools taking the time to help us. Or maybe before and after shots, something like that.

I know he's really torn right now so I can't predict how he's going to go - but - if he does decide to sell it after all of this, I'll follow your guidance above.

I'm sure this will sound nuts to you guys, but honestly - we thought it was just a watch.

Many thanks again, you guys are the best!

There is no tribute higher for a passed loved one than keeping the few actual heirlooms that they may have left behind.

I restored my late fathers Omega watch at a cost that was more than the watch was worth, but it was worth it to me. I still wear that watch on special occasions or when I just feel like it..
