Wife converted overnight!!! Wow!!

I have been the lucky owner of a Sea Dweller 4000 for some time now but this weekend I got the opportunity to get close up and personal with a Royal Oak and a Nautilus 5711 for the first time.

I can't afford a big watch collection and I've always wanted a Royal Oak, so as much as I love the SD, I have long since expected to trade the SD in against a Royal Oak. However, this weekend has changed that view entirely.

The Royal Oak is amazing!! And even though we were just browsing, my wife did everything she could to get me to buy the RO there and then, it blew her away (she has a Rolex I bought her, but as much as she loves it, she's not into watches at all - until she held the RO!!). I'm a little more careful than her so we left without purchasing.

The we stumbled across a Patek stockist. And I held a Nautilus for the first time. Wow! Amazing watch. And the perfect fit for my rather small wrists. At £18,000 not even my wreckless-with-money wife was trying to persuade me! So leaving without buying was easy! But not without putting my name down on the three year waiting list!!

The thing I learned (which won't be a surprise to any of you watch folk) is that the three watches are so different despite being stainless sports watched from top watch makers. I simply cannot trade in the SD as the RO is not as versatile. And I can't not have a Patek. But the Nautilus does not get rid of my want for a RO!!

So my wife and I now have a plan!

1. She is setting up a watch bank account tomorrow
2. Instead of paying into our joint account for mortgage etc she is going to pay her share into the watch account instead, and I will cover all house costs
3. In c.9 months time she will buy me a Royal Oak and she will wear sometimes when I'm not!
4. 18 months after that, she will buy me the Patek (when the call comes)
5. When she buys me the Patek, she will have the RO and I will wear it now and again for a bit of strange!
6. While all this is happening, I'm going in search of a birth year 5513 with faded bezel and lovely patina.

So what started off as me dragging the wife into Harrods, has led to her suddenly 'getting it' and her instigating a master plan to buy a RO and a Patek and for us to start sharing watches! She's also told me I cannot trade the SD in unless it's for a Daytona that she can share!!

The power of AP and Patek!!!

I love the fact that you have laid out such a detailed plan that can actually be executed. Very well done, and you have, like me, a great wife.

Perfect plan and I feel your excitement!

After owning a SubC Date and SS Daytona I'm now super happy to own BLNR.

I just put done my name and left a deposit for PP 5711. I'm blown away how insane that model is. Might save up for AP 15400 as well. BLNR, Hulk, AP 15400 and PP 5711 is my perfect future collection.

Very cool! And my fiancé had a similar reaction to the RO. She didn't like it at all in pics, but she loved in person and wants me to buy it.

If this all works out for you, which I sincerely hope it does, you will need to post a picture of you smoking a big cigar dressed as Hannibal Smith, wearing the RO and with the caption "I love it when a plan comes together"

Without this very important picture it didn't happen

Just kidding. Good luck

SOunds like a great plan you must be lucky to have similar sized wrists, my wife now wears my Daytona but it has a lot of links removed.

I've always complained about my pathetic wrists - but now I suddenly see it as a huge positive!

Funnily enough, my wife emailed me today about the Daytona, and that if ever did decide that I wanted to swap my Sea Dweller for something else then the Daytona would make a good watch for sharing!!

It's fair to say that my better half has got the bug!
