New SD4000 questions.
My new Sea Dweller has green lume I thought it should be blue?
The crown on the crown does not line up perfectly. My Exp2 does. Should it? Was purchased from Rolex dealer yesterday. Many thanks. |

Aside from that, the new SD4K should indeed have blue luminescence. Now, what exactly do you mean by "crown on the crown does not line up perfectly"? Can you post a photograph?

It's blue. The lume just looks green when not fully charged (assuming you bought a new Sea Dweller and not a used piece). If you bought it from an AD you have nothing to fear.

It maybe That the lume has only been charged by my little torch so far. I'll get it out in the sun today. Definitely looks green though. Not at all as per the Rolex website.
I wasn't clear with the crown explanation. I meant when the crown is fully tightened the Rolex crown logo ought to be sitting absolutely square or at 90 degrees with the face. Mine is at 45 degrees. I'll get a pic up soon. Neither are deal breakers. I love the watch to bits. |

Your crown will line up at any angle when screwed closed.
If it lined up precisely at 12 it would just be luck.

My iPhone definitely alters the color of the lume glow but if it's a ceramic bezel SD, which it seems to be and you bought it from an AD then it is blue and you have no worries. Crown and casebacks typically never align at a perfect angle.

Oh, I'm not worried about it's authenticity at all and I love it to bits regardless. It's my eyes that are dodgy it seems, not the watch.

The Sea Dwellers are at the top if the tree in Rolex engineering?
The new model also gives you THE best bracelet. Enjoy wearing it. And enjoy your blue lume.

Maybe your AD can give you. Retro discount for your faulty crown. ;-)
Have you spoken to your car dealer about those hubcaps which leave your cars logo sitting every which way? :-) |

It really ought to line up and be precise. It does on my Exp and it's a nice touch that it does. It is a Rolex after all.

It's blue, it's beautiful, and the crown isn't supposed to point in any particular direction! Enjoy.

The winding crown in the real world has no alignment points is just a winding crown meant to be turned. Now if there was no emblem on the crown then know-one would have any so called alignment point to worry about. As long as you screw the crown down just finger tight that's all that's needed, irrespective where the emblem lands upright or down side up.And depending on each persons eyes and lighting conditions how much charge the lume has, picture taken by different camera lens computer screens etc the lume could look blue,blue/green or visa verso. Now the paint Luminover is made by Nemoto a Japanese luminous paint maker now they moved a part of its factory to Switzerland in 1998 in Joint-ventured with RC-Tritec AG.This was to establish Luminova AG Switzerland for supplying Luminova to all the Swiss watch industry including Rolex and major brands.Later the name was changed to super-luminover and many other names for basically the same product under various names. But all basically the same paint with a slightly different colour pigments. And now we have Chromolight which is now a Rolex trademark but again this could be a special colour blend of luminous paint by Nemoto for Rolex, I would doubt if Rolex themselves would make lume paint..
