A white dial 16520 without "Daytona" writing

Stumbled upon this online.

Anybody have any info on this claimed prototype dial?

Thanks in advance RF members.

The Daytona was introduced as a badge in the early 60's and some had Daytona on the dial and some did not. Later they all got the Daytona badge, but that would have been much earlier than the watch dial that you show; the post '99 SEL is also questionable, although it could be the last year run of Zenith models before changing to the 116520...

Could be specific to the Italian market.

A top Italian collector and seller has two of them, one sold last year. They exist indeed. Of anyone is interested I will dig into the Italian O&P forum archive for some more info.

Hi Fabio,
I have seen Bonanno and Brandizzi offer these Daytona's with "prototype" dials
Strangely enough I have not seen any others for sale outside of Italy.
Would love to know more about it and how they originated!

The one from Bonanno is actually blank

That looks like the exact same picture of the OP. The OP photo has the grey bar photo-shopped out.

There's another picture in the same thread, a tritium dial. And here you can find the sales thread, the exact lunimova dial that the mega-famous reseller in Rome bought and mounted on the 16520 mentioned by the OP.
