5508 for your review

Hi All,

Wondering your expert opinions on the below 5508? Seller claims that the only thing that has been replaced is the insert, but wanted to check with you.

Best,
Mike

Dial looks good, rare to see the exclamation point. Crowns possibly replaced, can't really tell from pics. Overall looks like an honest example that shouldn't be too hard to bring back to original.just need to factor the insert price.

Thanks for the review Andromeda. Here is a closeup of the crown. Does it look replaced?

No, Brevet "+" only on pre-1957 crowns.

The hands are probably re-done or fully replaced. As you have noted, the insert is not the original type, and likely not original Rolex. The watch looks a little bleak overall, the markers are mostly flattened, and color of the dial not very lively or compelling. The watch is fine, I guess, just not anything to chase at a high price, in my opinion.

Learn something new everyday, so only very early 5508's carry a brevet plus.
