Were RSC (SG) being cautious or were they being paranoid?
I will just cut to the chase on this incident.
I went to RSC (Singapore) to have my aftermarket insert changed and the counter lady spotted a small dent (at the “16” marker) on the bezel (pictures below). She took the watch to their watchmaker and came back to inform that I will need to have the whole bezel changed in order to change to a new insert due to the small dent. I was quoted around USD370 in all! Disgusted, I took the watch to my watchmaker with a genuine insert and he snapped it in in less than 10 mins. He called RSC’s stand bulls**t and overly paranoid ! What made this matter worse was I had the watch verified at RSC SG few weeks ago and it cost me USD80 yet they failed to pick this up being an aftermarket insert !! Double whammy !!! So…. Were RSC (SG) being cautious or were they being paranoid? Does it warrant such measure as to have the whole bezel changed? Does anyone still have faith in RSC? Or was it RSC SG that has problem? |

your bezel was damaged. they didn't want to deal with that so they told you to have it fixed or move on. you moved on.

I have never installed one before, but assuming the insert is press-fit into the bezel, I could definitely see that dent being a problem by potentially damaging the insert during install.

They were probably worried that the insert might not sit properly in a scratched bezel assembly. Not crazy, but I am glad you got it sorted.
Kind of reminds me when my wife dropped her iphone and broke the screen, Apple would rather replace the whole phone than just fix the screen and have fitment issues. |

Key word you said is "aftermarket".
frankly I am shocked they offered to address it as they invariably will not service a watch with any non genuine parts. |

They were just CYOA. If they did not replace the bezel, but tried to fit the insert, and it fell out they would have been responsible. They don't want to deal with anyone elses parts on their watches. Plain and simple

I agree.. That's a pretty banged up bezel and so a replacement, including a new insert, seems to be the way I would have gone..

Agree with this, the dent is encroaching into the area where the insert is snapped into the bezel.

They probably did spot that's it's a fake and just being courtesy as not to embarrass you and point out that it is. Thus, the recommendation changing the whole bezel.

I believe they are paranoid; being cautious about what after actions could happen if they accepted the bezel insert change only.

The thing is I have had it verified with RSC and sorted out with the seller those issues RSC pointed out. And of course, it is reasonable to assuming all are good thereafter.
How can I now go back to the seller and say "...dude, there is an issue with the insert and hence, can you refund me the price of a replacement insert?" (though I must say the seller is a real gentleman !! ) that's what I meant by "USD170 down"... |

Don't think so pal. They would have made the call that it is an aftermarket insert upon verification of the piece and they failed to

Well, to begin with, I wouldn't install any aftermarket parts on a genuine Crown.

Agree with others who say for $370 you should have had the bezel replaced, and understand with such damage why they did not want to mess around with putting in only an insert.
