Bracelet Sizing Question on Incoming Sub

After a long time browsing and admiring all of the great watches I've seen on this site, my first rolex (the Hulk!) is currently on its way to my doorstep.

I plan on taking it to a local jeweler as soon as possible, and am wondering how to factor in the glide clasp in the sizing process. I have 6.5" wrists, and anticipate having to remove a couple of links. Should I initially set the clasp to the smallest setting, or leave fully extended before removing links? If the answer seems obvious, I have to blame it on my excitement, which I'm sure is clouding my ability to think clearly!

Set the clasp at the smallest setting and size the bracelet based on that.

That way you can always make it a bit larger on hot days or whenever you need a little more space.

After that, get yourself a 1.6mm ground hollow screwdriver, a small tube of loctite, and never worry about sizing again.

Congrats on the watch. Post some pictures when you get it.

Remember there is a difference between a jeweler and a rolex watchmaker...

Great advice. I had a watch butchered by a "jeweler" long ago. I was furious but refused to let them handle it any further. Lesson learned.

I have same size wrists as you. I found 4 links top and bottom and Glidelock slightly bigger than smallest setting was perfect with heaps of adjust-ability either side.
Some people find the Fliplock link is better removed for comfort.
I would definitely find a Rolex AD to do the adjustment unless you really trust your jeweler. A Rolex dealer will use the most accurately fitting screwdriver for your pins. A jeweler might not.
Enjoy!

Unless it is a hot day when you are sizing.

I generally like having the glidelock in the middle so I have some room in either direction. You'll probably need at least 3 links out.
Congrats on a great choice!

I just got a new Sub and needed two links out on the 6 side with 7' wrist. MUCH better balance when two came out on one side as opposed to one on each side which i tried first. Glidelock is at maximum length on a hot day now leaving plenty of room to shrink it and I can count the notches inside the clasp as I do it. it definitely IS the greatest watch bracelet ever designed.Enjoy!

I sized my Submariner dead centre of the glide lock.

Seemed the smart thing to do as I can now go either way.

The ezylink on my other bracelets take a bit more thought.

Set it in on a cold day?
Set it out on a hot one?

First off, congrats on the new sub...great choice.

As others have said, be careful with who you let size it. Things can get ugly in a hurry without the right tools and/or knowledge. With your size wrists, I would put the glidelock in the center position and look at removing 3 links or so. Good luck,

I believe this is the best approach as well. Its what I did and I've adjusted in both directions from day to day. Enjoy it in good health.

Thanks for all of the information! The place I initially picked out seems legit, and their site shows that they service Rolex with complete overhauls, etc. That being said, I don't want to take a chance. The other dilemma I have is that I am reluctant to take it to the AD in Beverly Hills where I tried out the watch several times, since I purchased it someplace else. I see that there is an authorized Rolex repair center in town. Does anyone know if they will size, and if this would be a good option?

Did they take one either side originally? I just got my sub also and took it to the AD, wrist same as yours. They also took two links out but one either side. The clasp is off center and I find the watch rolls away opposed to sitting central on my wrist.

Set the clasp to the middle, so you can later do micro adjustment in both ways.

Also get a 1.6mm screw and a bottle of loctite 222 and do the sizing yourself. I wouldn't put too much faith in the local jeweler.

This one from Home Depot fits perfectly and my local Graingers had the Loctite in stock.

Congrats on the hulk!

Yep, did it myself just last night. Super easy to remove the links and with the glidelock set to the middle you can adjust both ways if needed.

There are dozens of places in the LA area that are qualified to adjust your bracelet but you should be looking for one with a watchmaker on staff. If not, then it's a salesman with minimal experience doing the job and not likely to take care with scratches..

Yes, the RSC in Beverly will adjust your watch bracelet for you..

I needed my Sub sized and my local jeweler did me a favor. He said he would not touch it. Didn't want to butcher it. I took it to my local AD and he sized it for free even though I didn't buy it from them. I have 5 links on each side and it works perfect for me.

Congrats in advance.

Two questions:

1) Do ADs mind sizing a Rolex that they obviously didn't sell to you? I am wondering what I what do if I buy from a Trusted Seller.

2) I have a 7" wrist. My local AD (where I purchased my BLNR) removed one link and I currently have 4 links on the 6 side and 7 links on the 12 side. The clasp is slightly off center toward my thumb, but the longer hinged part underneath is perfectly centered on my wrist. Is that the way you all generally have your watch sized?

I love this forum....
Having started reading this thread and all the advice. I just shot down to my local AD again. I didn't buy the watch from them but they did take two links out for me, 7" wrist.

Well I've had the watch two weeks and as said before, the clasp was off center and the watch rolled away on my wrist.

Long story short, they just corrected it for me, four links on the six side and five on the twelve side. Clasp all centered and fits like a dream.

Bad thing, I started looking at Daytonas while waiting......

Agree. I also have 6.5 wrists on an 116610ln.
Usually in the 3rd or 4th slot on the glide lock.

Somehow the "normal wear" scratches do not bug me. The ones made by a careless watchmaker really piss me off. I think they are not used to the extreme level of pickyness(donīt know if thats a word) someone can have. The AD sized mine and butchered the screws(no loupe involved to see it). Should have known better and done it myself but wanted to leave with my watch on. I know for next time.

Mine did not charge me but that doesn't mean others will do the same. I will say this, when I got my lowest price I gave my AD the number and asked if he could at least match it. He couldn't. As soon as I got it I took it, I took it there and he sizes it.

My Sub has 5/5. My GMT and Daytona have 6 on the 12 side and 5 on the 6 o'clock side. Mine are as close to center as possible on the underside.

Personally I'd size it so the Glidelock is in the middle of its travel, giving you adjustability either way. Only reason I'd size it to the smallest position would be if I was diving with it and needed to expand it to get over a wet suit. Then I'd want plenty of travel to go larger.
