You're right, 44 is a replacement serial designation, does the seller not offer this information or do they deny it when asked?

So it's a new case, new dial, new bracelet and new insert?

Of course it can be nice if the deal is right, but isn't that like taking an old motor and putting it in a new car? Nothing really vintage about it anymore, except for the part that does the work.

Seller gave me all the info .
He said that the watch has all new brecelet , bezel and the case .
He also wrote that in his ad and on his homepage , very prominent dealer !
He assure all parts and the job is done by Rolex , but he has no reciept on it send he bought the watch from somrine overseas.

I like the matt dial , and plexy , and the weight and feeling of 1680 , So that is the readon i want one !
Would like to get one in perfekt shape with box and pappers but then we are talking 12-13000euro.
I am not a fan of vintage in bad shape with destroyed lugs there you can not see the satin finish enymore , rust looking hands and so on .....

Last year in NYC I was wisiting a dealer for a gmt 1675 , he had one Explorer 1665 , complet with box and pappers , unpolishes , like new , I got craze , but the price was ..... 22500usd .

I like it if the dial and hands are good. You never see a sharp bezel and case with top hat combo, looks cool to me. I'd expect the price to be somewhat affected by the service case but not all that much. Oh, and I would factor in a fat font bezel insert

Agreed, but he said the dial was new.

Nice looking patina on dial and hands. You will have a new watch with a vintage appeal.
Not a collector piece to most I would think but you can wear with little problems except normal wear and tear on plastic crystal and insert, this one has a service insert.
It should be much less expensive than a true vintage example imho. If it is not wait for a nice true vintage piece. m

To me, service case + service parts are more kin to a reissue.
It was not born in the vintage period

If you like it, buy it, but keep in mind that recased 1680's sell for around 25% less than original 1680's.

To me, a case like that hits the value a bit even though it looks great - personally I don't like the fonts but I do not have one to compare. My recollection has the replacement cases with different engravings. I would consider to get additional opinions if I were you. I don't know what seller has this.
