I finally got a Rolex!. Now what?

hi, I am new here so if I ask a silly question please forgive me. I finally got a Rolex. It appears to be a model 1675. The 16870## serial number I believe dates it in the mid 60's. It came without a band. The band I put on it is not real. Here is my first question. Will any Rolex band do or should I look for a specific model number from that time period? If so, which one? I am attempting to upload a picture or two and hope I am able to do so. Does everything look correct on it? Is it taboo to replace the original bezel with an aftermarket one? I appreciate your responses and feedback and any information you can provide on the watch. Thank you

Mind sharing the price?

The small gmt is very hard to find, as per my previous reading.

I would leave the faded bezel, as it add much more value to the watch.

I bought it from a friend of mine that owns a pawnshop. He thought the bezel was messed up because it didn't click and the numbers on the dial were yellowed out. After I researched I realized it was a friction bezel and hopefully a gilt dial as opposed to yellowed numbers. Thanks for your responses

You did very very well on the price!

In regards to the band I would buy a 78360 band with 580 (I believe) endlinks. Get it serviced and pressure tested so you can enjoy it for many years to come.

Just off-hand, I think that serial number would be a 1967 matte dial. Do you have any more photos? If it is, indeed, a true and honest gilt 1675, and it runs without any issues, your friend should probably brush up on his pawn shop know-how.

That's the understatement of the year, even if the dial has been relumed.

Lol at sending the info! What other pics do you need. I am still scared it's fake. The dial is shiny. Should it be matte finish? Even though I paid $1200, my wife thinks I paid $400 and still thinks it's a lot for a watch. The hands are terrible in that there is no lume at all left.

It looks like the lume is in the hands, but its grey. The glossy dial is worth what you paid, so don't fret.

Are you sure serial number is 1,68X,XXX? It does seem a bit late for a glossy dial?

Yes I'm sure. Is that a bad sign? I took it to my jeweler who assured me it was real but we did not take the back off

it looks real...and based on what you paid, don't worry about it. Its a great looking watch as-is. Enjoy it.

On the other hand...gotta love a jeweler stating its real without looking at the movement. WTF?

He had it for a day. Said the hands stacked right, ticks per second were right, aging was appropriate, but he didn't want to open it and mess up anything unnecessarily. He said he was sure. I sure hope so! Thank you for your input. It's about 10 seconds a day slow so I'm sure when I get it serviced I'll find out for sure.

Looks like the dial is the last variation of the glossy gilt dials (gold printing) used on the GMT 1675. Based on the serial number, it is considered a little late for a gilt GMT but not by much, and leftover dials were placed on watches in sporadic fashion during the end of production runs. The gilt dials were replaced by matte dials with white lettering around the 1.5 million serial number range.

Hands appear original as well as the dial and the faded bezel insert. Many of these older, original hands have this grayish green color which helps identify them as original. I don't see any evidence based on the photos of the dial being relumed.

Deal of the year! The small red GMT hand alone is worth about what you paid for the watch. Your friend must buy low and sell low.

Once you resell it as a result of this thread, your wife will be stunned at your profit margin.

Thank you very much for all of your input! In defense of my friend this watch really looked terrible when I got it my jeweler did some buffing on the Crystal and the case to make it much more presentable
