Hi All,

Ive been in the market for a submariner for the longest time and am now considering two that are up for grabs.

14060m V serial circa 2008. BNIB with a minor blemish on case, otherwise 100% mint.

14060m random serial circa 2012. Unserviced and showing very very light wear.

assuming the cost for both are the same, would you pick the BNIB that was manufactured earlier, or the relatively younger watch which isn't exactly mint?

which way would you lean?

thanks in advance....hoping to have either on my wrists soon!

How does a watch with a minor blemish qualify as BNIB? And it's either mint or it's not, no percentage qualifications apply.

All other things being equal, the newer model, I suppose.

If it's truly BNIB, that's the one I'd go for.

(Mind you, I'm the type that has so far only bought my watches new from ADs!)

Sorry if I didnt use the correct wording.

I gather the BNIB was mishandled at some point to gain the blemish but otherwise it's never been worn(so I'm told) and with all papers and stickers in tact.
Or is it such that if its truly BNIB then there should never have been any reason to be handled at all to gain the case blemish?

Again you guys fall into the internet serial syndrome trap now V serials ran from around August 2008 well into June 2010 or later.The the single letter G plus 6 numbers started around June/July 2010 followed a little later in 2010 by the random serials, mixture of letters numbers but now a total of 8 digits,and both G and Random are still running too present time.

You didn't give us enough info really. I would do neither. You're gonna get gouged with a BNIB so I would buy a gently used one. I got a 99% condition watch with full set, and a 2 liner at that, for 46.

I don't know exactly when the lugs/ceramic changed but get the one that you can rationalize enjoying most. Some go more vintage if the could. Vs some more current.

You should always buy the best example you can find for the price you want to pay.

These watches should not be priced the same.. either the early one is overpriced or the other is a great buy.

what kind of blemish???

Random serial if the wear is very slight vs a blemish if the blemish is something that requires polishing to remove.

I would go with the 2012 watch. Once you wear the 2008 and put wear and tear on it the watch will now be 4 years older than the 2012 and possibly look the same. If you ever go to sell it that would make a difference if the person buying it had the option to buy a similar watch 4 years newer

Is the "BNIB" sold by an AD? If so, presumably you'd get the 5-year warranty (since it's technically a new watch)?

Thanks for all of the feedback.

The V is indeed BNIB with sticker intact and going for a couple hundred more.
The random shows a bit more wear.

While I do prefer BNIB, I was initially concerned that it would require an immediate service being that it is "older". But after doing some research I've learned that this might not be the case. Im far from being an expert on all things watches!

So now I'm torn between the two. And whatever its worth, I'm looking to wear the damn thing...not adding to a "collection".
