Going gold & then retreating

Has anyone here decided to go yellow gold (or rose gold), and then felt it's not for them. Maybe thinking it's too loud or blingy for them & retreating back to their SS/WG or TT? If so what was your YG/RG choice and what did you go back to?

I guess I'm the only one... yellow gold is just not for me. First Rolex was gold. I kept it because I purchased it in my 20's in my first very successful year. It's a commemorative watch.

White gold is a different story.

To be brutally honest, yes, to some extent. I have retreated a bit from full gold references (i.e. bracelets) to gold on leather/rubber. I find that having a gold bracelet really adds to the "bling" effect and I find myself a little more comfortable with gold references on leather/rubber. MY 2 cents.

Haven't got there yet so I can't say. Sure is a problem I'd like to have though.

Nope. No way. I'm actually thinking of trading in my SS pieces for precious metal. Ever since I bought my RG DD2 I have not worn any other of my Rolexes, or SS pieces in general.

I don't wear gold or diamonds, period. I've got a perfectly nice PP from the 1930s. A family heirloom, that I will never wear. I don't mind white gold or platinum, however. I think many gold watches look great, but, frankly, I find gold jewelry cheaply ostentatious on men. I also happen to live in an affluent, though informal community, and wearing such a watch would draw cutting comments from everyone here.

Like some here, I too have had the gold on bracelet but now like gold better on a strap. Just my taste.

I think TT looks best on its matching bracelet but the gold ones are just too heavy.

I've had 2 SS and now a WG. Now, I want platinum.
But I agree about jewelry on men. I will only wear a watch and only in WG or plat because most people will assume it's steel.

I tried a 116618ln for a short time but I just didn't feel comfortable with it. I now have a 116619 which I love. I like that not everyone knows it's gold.

Only have one gold piece and it's a WG Lange so I don't really experience the whole wrist presence effect that comes with a YG/RG Rolex.

I love rose gold and platinum so I'll likely get a RG piece then Pt when the time is right.

Retreat?

My YG DayDate II is on my wrist in jeans, shorts, and a suit. It can do it all with style and presence. The only time I do not let it too visible on my wrist is when I am in a shady area of town which is not very often.

Go for it!

I feel exactly the same way. I could only do gold on leather.

I can't do yellow or rose gold. Whatever blows your skirt up, go for it, it's just not for me.

I haven't ventured to any yellow or rose gold pieces, if I did it would likely be on a leather strap.

I have tried full gold models on but just don't think they look great on my wrist.
