Scratch in my hesitate crystal

Hi All,

I put a nice scratch in my crystal today. Is this a repair or a replacement? Thanks!

I would try some polywatch before replacing it.

If you try polywatch, can you post an after shot?

Wow. I love polywatch but that scratch may be a bit much. Give it a shot and post the results.

Looks like a crack if I am not mistaken which means it needs to be replaced. You must have hit it really hard.

That is most definitely a crack and not just a scratch. Not only would I replace it but I hope you immediately hacked the watch so no shards or bits could work through the movement. Oh, and I'd not let it anywhere near water either.

I'd get it replaced AND get a full service if the watchmaker thinks there is any chance something may have gotten into the movement.

I thought the point of hesalite was that it doesn't shatter into shards, no?

It's certainly less prone to shattering (one reason it was preferred by NASA for the moon watch) but all it takes is one minuscule piece. If for no other reason than an abundance of caution, I'd still hack the watch and not rely on it's WR.

Can you hack an 861 or 1861 movement? I have a speedmaster with the 1861, does not hack.

The 1861 does not hack, you have to let it run down. I doubt there are any shards anyway... looks like a clean crack.
