Next travel watch, Nautilus 5990 vs ALS Timezone..

Wanted to get quick opinions from my fellow enthusiasts.

The ALS Timezone in Platinum will be available to me BNIB from a friend at sub 34K, which is amazing.

I have a great relationship with my PP AD, and enjoy decent discounts, along with a 5% VAT refund. I just got the call from him that the 5990 is suddenly available.

I'm in need of a travel watch, and feel that both options do well in both casual or dress attire. I'm drawn to the size and movement of the Timezone, but also find that the 5990 is a great package and wears well.

I know it's a personal decision in the end, but I look forward to your thoughts and opinions!

Really depends on the look you are going after. The Lange is dressier IMO. For me, I prefer the Nautiluses that can be worn both for sport and dressy.

I adore both of these pieces. I own the Lange in WG and have found it to be more versatile than expected. The size and case finish lend to casual situations more than I anticipated and I find myself wearing it quite often. The 5990 is the one Nautilus that I have a real yearn for, and I may very well add one down the road, but I will keep the Timezone.

These are both absolute winners IMO and your choice is the very nature of a personal decision. You can research resale, etc if that is appropriate for you - it wasn't a major consideration for me. I simply liked the Lange a bit more, the overall package fit my specific collection better at the time.

Can't go wrong either way, they are both amazing pieces. I think it comes down to personal preference and what else you have in your collection. For me, I slightly lean toward the 5990

Having looked at both, I'm not fussed on either.
The 5990 doesn't work for me, and the Lange is confusing, lacking an element of clarity.

To that end, and as I will often do, I'm going to propose an alternative.....http://www.watchtime.com/wristwatch-...r-cosmopolite/

I so agree with PJ S

I have handled the ALS. Found everything on the dial too small for my personal liking and just not user friendly. Telling time(s) was work. Just my humble opinion. I love the offering from GO.

I would go for the 5990 and it works well for casual and dressy

I really like the timezone but am finding I prefer rubber or bracelet and therefore I vote 5990.

My favorite watch and favorite Lange bar none. I would suggest trying them both and get the one you like most.

U can't really go wrong with either.
I tend to lean towards the ALS in between them two

5990 for me, as it's a bit more versatile.

love both but the Lange is a little too much on the dress side for me, so if it was for me, it isn't, I would get the PP

The ALS, IMHO, is dressier compared to the PP. Since you want versatility, then I think the PP would be better choice. But both are very nice pieces and you really can't make a bad choice here.

BNIB Platinum Time Zone at sub 34K sounds like a great deal to me unless I am missing something. In any case, my vote goes to the Lange.

If it was the rose gold version, likes Ken's (Beautiful watch ken) then I would go with that. As there is a lot more colour and beauty compared to the platinum piece.

So my choice would be for the 5990

That price sounds good. I like the 5990, especially the dial color with the complications, but if you could get Ken's beautiful grey dial (I tried!) that would be great. I do like it in WG with the blue hands though. The 5990 is probably more versatile but most larger Langes are surprisingly versatile too and I always found the timezone to wear really well for it's size.

Tough call...
