Thinking about older Sub, suggestions?

So I have a problem obviously or I wouldn't be on here!! Ok so I sold my 116610 because it was just not me when I really think about it.
I've always had old cars, trucks, etc. I don't like modern styled anything really and love old Holmes & barn's. So why am I obsessing over newer watches!

Been thinking about an older Sub but need some nudging to steer me to the right one.

Here's what I've owned & why I got rid of them at the time
16710 pepsi, 1st one wanted for years but needed cash a year later & sold
16760, wore it for a while on the jubilee and purchased the second
16610, excellent condition but felt it was to plain & everyone had one
216570 polar, 1st new Rolex traded the fat lady & the sub for it when they first came out. Liked it but didn't love it. Gave it to my father for his birthday later that year after watching him drool when I wore it around him.
16600, thought if I liked the slightly thicker 16760 then why not a sea dweller. Liked it but wanted a cyclops & traded for
16610lv, thought green & maxi dial was for me. liked it but got caught up in newer model improvements only to trade for
116610 my 2nd new Rolex. Liked the new bracelet wasn't crazy about the bigger lugs & shiny ceramic bezel after a few months. started looking at other brands
again
IWC Pilots chrono 3777, traded down plus cash to me for it & I like it but it's to thick & I like to wear my stuff daily and I'm thinking after a month it's just not an everyday watch for me.

So here's what I think I want!! Been looking at older subs 1680, 16800, & 168000. i do love the faded navy to almost purple color of some older subs. Just has a very nice look like old hand rubbed lacquer.
My problem is this I'm not sure if I want a plexi model as the plexi sits up pretty high from the bezel & im worried about smacking it on something. not sure if I want maxi or white gold suround markers so not a deal breaker for the right one.
Let's keep away from Red subs and others in that price range as I'm thinking around a 5k budget give or take a few bucks!!

Any help from anyone who owned one or both or has owned all of the above would be greatly appreciated. And why you liked or disliked that model.

Sorry for the long winded post but thought what I owned & why I got rid of them may be of some help to you all in helping me with my hunt for another! Lol

Matt

Why don't you get an older sea dweller! Always a classic and not everyone has one.

Like the older SD's but at 6'3" with a 7.5" wrist I prefer the way sub wears a little larger and the cyclops really helps for a quick glance at the date. Plus I would have to have a domed plexi model & last I looked they were out of my reach!!

Taste in watches and certain models is a subjective matter. Not quite sure why you are seeking advice from others. Only YOU can decide what is right to wear on your wrist. Browse the For Sale section here on the forum. Lots of vintage stuff available.

Go back to your old GMT Pepsi. You sold it because you needed the cash at the time. Not because you did not loved it

I do like the GMT's but now that I have owned others I like the bigger triple lock crown on the sub for ease of winding and i like the way the bigger crown looks on the watch.

Maybe I should just buy an older sub for everyday wear & set some funds aside for a GMT in the future.

I know I need to like it or there's no point in buying if I'm not happy. I was more looking for pro's & cons of the 3 sub models. I know there's really no horrible Rolex's ever made but just some inside info from owners would be nice.

I own these 2 and they are very different animals but still live in the same jungle. One has been with me 18 years and has sentimental importance, the Hulk is the newcomer on the block and is the most modern rendition of the Sub. I like both for what they are and will never part with either. All I have to add is the 116618LB Yellow Gold Sunburst Bluesy and I (think, lol) that will be it!!

You can't be a real watch nut (and I mean crazy) until you've owned the same model multiple times.

Get a ceramic GMT!!

Cheers,

Ben

Get a matte dial 16800, best of both worlds. I passed on one some time ago and have regret it ever since 😩💦💦

Those both look great. My father has a blue 2 tone like yours that I've always admired
