Which rolex do I own?
Hi guys, my first post so here goes..
Years ago I was left a gold vintage rolex (circa 1956), in a will, and I can't find out what model it is? Can anyone advise me as to what model it is? The date above is from the inscription on the back, the watch has no serial number under the strap, no model name on the face... There is a gold hallmark on the "arm" that holds the strap. Any help much appreciated |

Model number should be stamped on the inside of the caseback, are there any numbers on the outside of the caseback? The gold will be stamped in the casetback as well, plus you might find a chronometer movement, although not likely judging by the dial. Which appears to be refinished

Andromeda, thanks for the reply.
I have had the watch for over 20 years, it's been back to rolex for a full service, but that's it for work since I got it. There are no other items on dial, chronograph, day, date etc.. I am unaware of any work on the face. I removed the strap to see if I could see a model number, but there is nothing apart from an inscription on the outside of the caseback, and I don't know how to open the watch to check inside it Any ideas as to the model? |

not sure about the model number, I found the same case, it's made by Dennison which is a company Rolex used to make cases for some of their imported watches since complete watches were taxed much more heavily than just movements, so they would send movements to be fitted in a case in the country of sale to save on import fees.
because of that, I don't think you'll find much info about the model, it's not an Oyster case either which detracts from the desirability, and shock resisting font is supposed to be centered between the hand pinion and 6 oclock marker. there also was never lume above the crown originally. http://www.network54.com/Forum/20767...sting+9ct+gold if you want to see similar models google Gold rolex shock resisting or manual wind gold rolex. |
