Bob's Watches.
I get a periodic email from Bob's Watches inviting me to sell a watch. I've had a 214270 that I've been wanting to sell so I thought I'd give it a try.
After filling out an intake form yesterday and providing pictures I received an email from a company rep wanting to know more. I answered the questions and soon received a formal quote for "up to $4300". I emailed the rep back and said that $4300 was acceptable albeit a lowball offer. She said as long as the watch arrived as described it would be $4300. After receiving a shipping label from Bob's I scrambled around at work and found packing material and boxed it up. At quitting time I hustled over to the shipping place where I know Fedex picks up fairly late. After dropping it off and getting home I receive another email from the rep. This time is saying that she miscalculated the offer and could really only pay $3800. Mind you I had already dropped it off. $3800 would not work clearly. Severely irritated I called the shipping place and luckily fedex was delayed due to freeway issues I had them pull the box. I packed my son up and drove the 15 miles back towards work and got my watch. I asked the rep to have her leadership call me. She ended up calling me and said that she would try to get the original price. I emailed her twice today and no firm answer... My watch remains boxed up.. Still irritated. They have a chance to do the right thing. |

I wanted to post an update to this from yesterday. For those of us joining late Bob's Watches quoted me for a Rolex I am selling. After sending me a postage label and me dropping it off at the shipping center I received a follow on email after arriving home. This email stated that they misquoted me by 500 dollars.
That would not work so I drove back to pick up my watch. Fortunately the truck had not picked it up yet but I had to drive 30 miles out of my way. They had a chance to do the right thing but today they nicely told me where to go. If they can't make $1100 bucks target profit then they would rather not do the deal so the fact that I was misquoted and inconvenienced is not their problem I guess. Will not to business with them again. (I have two previous transactions with them) |

Wow. Sorry to hear about your experience, but Im glad you shared it here so that others can learn from it. I've always looked at their inventory, but never purchased from them or sold anything to them.

Sorry to hear about that Brad, I always wonder when it comes to places with huge inventories like that if it's worth it, I guess not.

A similar thing happened to me with them. I was quoted a price for a Rolex, shipped it and then the "miscalculation" was brought to my attention once it was already there. It was very frustrating and I just had them ship the watch back. I've bought from them and the experience has been good both times, but selling/trading left a bad taste in my mouth.

I would do business with just about any of the big trusted sellers here in the for sale forum than do business with Bob's. They are simply a buy low and sell high type of company. This is not the first unpleasant experience that has been reported with them.

I wouldn't trust anybody when it comes to not doing a face-to-face transaction on something like a watch. I just purchased my first, and likely last, used watch from a jewelry store and there's no substitute for carefully inspecting the watch and the seller in person. The watch was excellent, and I purchased it. Great price, zero regrets.
Granted, buying and selling a watch is a pain, and using web-based merchants certainly make the process a lot easier for busy people. Just remember there's ample opportunity for skulduggery. |

they have a nice web site and a very large selection, but i think that their prices are high.
when i was looking to buy my first rolex (date) they were selling this model for about $2300 and up. in the end i got mine for $1500 from a jewerly store in manhattan, and i am sure that the seller made a profit on me. |

I love dealing with trusted sellers here. Such convenience and no BS.

I think their higher prices reflect a lot of their extra costs on overhead (i.e. web marketing and SEO)... they have a lot now, but I remember when they really came on the scene a few years ago, they were EVERYWHERE online... SEO/PPC/Remarketing etc... its expensive and I think their prices reflect this advertising...
I will say that in my early days I dealt with a lot of "miscalculating dealers" who love to tell you one price but then give another... only back then it was not a technical miscalculation; they would get a watch in hand and then start complaining about a scratch, excess (non-existent) band stretch, scratches on acrylic crystals, etc... all just bullspit to try and beat you up an additional few hundred bucks... its one of the oldest tricks in the book and it's one of the main reasons I decided to sell directly to consumers through TRF rather than go through dealers... |

They are the Carmax of watches. No haggling allowed. The price is the price. In some cases I would prefer buying from them because they have a stellar track record in terms of authenticity. Yes, it does cost a bit more, but their site is easy to use and well laid out. I am a fan.

Prices are the high end of retail. Trusted Sellers are the way to go.

I would never ever buy or sell a watch to them or from them. Their serial number chart is so out of whack that its laughable. The CEO often posts watches FS on other sites that are grossly misrepresented and often with incorrect parts. I have my own stories but, I will save you the trouble..
Run don't walk, these guys are clowns and are clueless about vintage. |

Buying from Bobswatches - Great experience when purchasing my first Rolex (16613) as the watch came in excellent condition but the price was a little high. After spending more time on TRF and purchasing from Trusted Sellers...will never go back to Bobs.
Quote from Bobswatches - Horrible experience...they low balled me and sent me multiple emails over and over...exhausting. |

Not a fan
Their prices are high and their trade-in values are low. They will hound you if you show interest but they are not the best place to buy/sell pre-owned rolexes (imho). I think you can do much better with trusted sellers here. I did.

Also your choice if you want to buy or sell, personal preference. Some sellers are not as knowledgeable as others but I can tell you I have done a couple of deals (purchases) with Bob's Watches, and both were very pleasant! I would not hesitate to purchase from them! |

I will repeat my last comment. I have purchased from Bob's watches and was very pleased with the transactions! As with every purchase, do your homework.

We get a lot of confused people coming here for help because they have used Bobs Watches serial number database and/or lists.
