Buying Iphone 6s plus from Verizon vs Buying from Apple

Hello Everyone,

I going to buy the iPhone 6s plus and I was wondering, if there is any difference between buying the iphone 6s plus from Apple vs buying it through Verizon. I have unlimited data which I would like to keep. So I will be paying full price for this phone. I'm just wondering how will the Apple Stores treat this phone if and when problems will should arise with this phone? Thank you

For Verizon phones, there's no difference. The GSM portion of you phone is unlocked. For att customers, they have a subsidy lock on it even if you pay full price and you have to request an unlock code or take it to someone that will do it for a price

Whether you buy the phone from Apple or Verizon you can still purchase Apple Care+ if purchased within the correct time period. There are some distinct differences between Apple Care+ and the insurance plan from Verizon. Main differences is cost and what one plan covers vs the other. Since I've purchased mine there may have been some changes so you'll want to make your own comparisons. If you purchase thru Verizon since you intend to pay upfront just check to make sure they give you the default Apple SIM card as well as the Verizon Sim Card.

The other main difference with Verizon's plan is that their plan if I remember correctly covers loss or theft, where Apple Care Plus only covers accidental damage for two incidents with a small deposit but no loss.

Why do I need both the default Apple SIM card and the Verizon SIM card? I'm just wondering.Thank you

When I purchased my IPad with cellular that's what the sales associate at Best Buy told me, so this piece may or may not be correct. But I believe that allows me to take the device and use it on another network if I decide to at some point. Like I said this may or may not be correct.

Besides now that I think of it they do handle locking of IPhones differently.

If you're interested, Verizon is making us grandfathered unlimited customers pay an extra $20/month starting next month. With that they are allowing us to pay off phones over time. I think it's unwise though, and I'm starting to really dislike Verizon for the way they treat unlimited customers. They seem to have forgotten that they are the ones who sold us the plan in the first place.

Yes, I heard about this. Yes, I agree I think it's very unwise thing to do, also. Plus the unlimited data customers are only 1% of their customers.

I'll make sure that I get both SIM cards. Thanks

You gotta love when a company sells you something but then a little while later decides it doesn't like the plan they sold you because they aren't making enough money off the customer so they decide they are going to add a monthly fee to keep the plan. Terrible way to treat loyal customers. Unfortunately if you switch to any other carrier they aren't much better.

Hey I work for Verizon and these are great questions and concerns. Trust me a lot of us have asked time and time again at meetings if the unlimited data was coming back or if something could be done for customers who have been loyal and even purchased devices at full price. Im not here to defend Verizon or anything like that but I think the steps its taking to allow unlimited data users to be able to use the device payment plan is a step forward. That was not even in the talks in the past. Being in unlimited is obviously pretty rare and since Verizon isn't going to kick you off of it per say then they will charge you a premium for that service which in this case came in the form of an additional $20/mo. Whether you buy from the Apple store or the VZW store you are going to get a device that will do the job for you. I know the topic of unlocked phones is a touchy one, I would try to get something carrier specific and the Apple store does have Verizon specific phones per the agreement we have with them. I hope that helped somewhat if not I'd be more than happy to answer anything if you want to PM me

Is there an honest wireless company? Or any telecommunications company for that matter?

Nice to get an insider perspective, even if it's not what you want to hear. Thanks!

I've been a Verizon customer for since I was in high school. I've bought through Verizon stores and apple alike. Just bought the 6s and new iPad through Verizon online. If there are any issues I can go straight to the Apple Store.

In that field as well as a broadcaster. Dealt with all them in either tower space rental or advertising. Verizon is by far the most dishonest, add in their data mining for the NSA takes it to a new level.

I got cheated because the Verizon dealer was an independent. They refused to honor the $200 trade-in per phone. I will only deal with Apple when I renew.

You're right about the fact that I will be able to use the monthly payment plan for the iPhone 6s or 6s plus
