Came across a beauty in the wild

Went visiting a customer today who was wearing a little beauty.

Bought it new in 1979, still as box and papers, he had no clue whatsoever of the value of his watch.

He will hand it to it's son when time comes.

It is feather light compared to my SDc.

Gave him the advice to put it in a safe back in Europe, as it can never be replaced and buy a 114060.

Just love those kind of stories.

Well.....that wasn't mentioned. Also, surprisingly the goings on in the Congo seldom (read never) make the news here.

Perhaps you should update your profile with your current location, so that people don't assume you're in France?
(although you did mention 'back in Europe')

Nice classic watch, in some developing countries is dangerous to wear a nice watch specially Rolex (recognized brand). I am originally from El Salvador and completely understand your advice, unfortunately.

Would the typical knucklehead criminal in the Congo think this beat up watch is valuable? Compared to a shiny new SubC that looks like it's expensive?

He's been wearing it a long time. Continuing to wear it shouldn't raise any alarm bells.

In some countries any watch never seen before is attractive to a thief (both those in mil uniform or street thug). They don't have to know the value up front, they just need to know it has potential to make them money when sold.
