Keeping track of time / accuracy

I am one of those nerds who likes to know exactly how their watches are behaving. I'm noticing the discrepancies in Watcheville's time keeping (due to speed of Internet) more and more.

If I wanted to buy a gadget or watch purely for setting my watches accurately, what should it be?

Thanks.

There's apps out there but again you're at the mercy of internet speed and latency.

You need a clock or watch that receives a radio transmitted atomic time signal.

If you want to be that close then an Atomic Clock is your only option.

Most of us are happy with a calibrated standard such as Time.gov or USNO (observatory) time since you can't set your watch to the millisecond, or probably even within a half second..

Time.gov is good.

Watchtracker for iPhone is exceptional as well.

I love, love watch tracker. You can set a data point at any time, gives you instant feedback, no more figuring the accuracy with a calculator. I think that it was 3-4 bucks in the AppStore. Here's the timing graph for my Submariner over the past month and a half.

Wow Mohamad, now that's some sweet accuracy!
Are you playing with some resting positions there?

Yes I am Tim! I found that watch resting on the crown, loses seconds, dial uppermost, gains seconds, and watch resting with crown uppermost will gain a second or so, here's a more recent photo.

Exactly, and where I live (provincial France) the Internet can easily be at least a couple of seconds out. I hadn't realised how bad it is until I saw a difference of nearly 2 seconds between my iPhone and iPad, both on Watcheville, both on the same Internet connection.

Ok....can you recommend an atomic clock?....are you referring to one of those weather stations that is connected to a time beacon?

I also like watch tracker, but it's no use if the Internet connection's no good....

Thanks Guys.

If you're in France then you need a clock picks up the TDF time signal.

You might be able to pick up the UK MSF signal too depending where you are in France. You certainly would have been able to until a few years ago before they moved transmission from Rugby to oooop north.

Clive, would one if these work for you? Resets to the atomic click here in the US every 24 hours, not too sure if there's a signal where you're at? While it has nothing to do with internet speed if there's no atomic clock signal this won't work either.
