Remove the Cyclops on your Panerai??
Well, there is good Thread on the Rolex Watch section, about removing the Cyclops on the Explorer II.
So got me thinking, how about removing the inverted cyclops on the Panerai contempory models? Anyone do this or know of anyone doing this? Seems you could have a compotent watchmaker remove the crystal and do for you? That is the one sore spot I have with Panerais, is the cyclops, in that there is always that little reflective speck on the cyclops. One thing I like about my 233 is no cyclops. |

You can put another cyclops on the top of the dial over the date to counteract the one under it. It would then appear unmagnified.

I'm sorry I don't have a Panerai but, what I have seen isn't the magnification ground into the underside of the crystal?

Negative on that soldier !! Panerai's cyclops is exquisite, with it being on the underside of the crystal. If you have a chance to see a 242,look at the cyclops, very unobtrusive, with the slightest magnification.A Rolex cyclops,on the other hand, will always look like a drop of water.

Still, the question remains: Can it be removed once the crystal is un-installed? In other words: Is the PAM cyclops glued on (the underside)? ![]()

Maybe you can just buy a crystal without a cyclops from O.P.?

How about if I want a no-date model but I still want the cyclops?

One of the things that attracted me to my 183 is the lack of a cyclops. Of my four watches, only the Exp II has one. I just can't get used to it. Inside or outside the crystal, I find cyclops to be distracting.
Good thing I plan to give the Exp II to my son when he graduates from college in two years. Then I'll be--and plan to remain--cyclops free. ![]()

Cyclops problems
I have had several Panerai contempary models int he past, with the cyclops. |The problem with the cyclops on \panerais are the reflective specks/spots that you get on the cyclops. Many find this annoying, and why many prefer \Panerai without the cyclops date feature. Since this has been a problem for a long while, I am amazed that Panerai has not corrected this problem with their inverted cyclops yet.

I guess a cyclops does by it's nature distort the vision of the dial.
I guess anything is possible, but it might be easier to get a genuine non-cyclops crystal off Panerai and have that fitted. Many years ago (when Rolex were not so finnicky) they would change your crystal from cyclops to non-cyclops at the option of the customer. ![]() Anyway I only have a non-cyclops Panerai. However, if you want a non-cyclops Panerai then you do have a real option in the PAM00062. The PAM00062 has the date located at a about the 4:30 O'Clock mark and there is no cyclops. I think it looks pretty cool. The watch is made out of either white gold or yellow gold and it costs around $11,000 ![]() ![]()

Yes I think the better thing to do is to get an OEM crystal of a non-cyclop PANERAI and replace the one with the cyclop. It is not a difficult task as there are many hand winding models without date, instead of removing of the cyclop from the crystal.
