Joining the Club - 2007 Pepsi Value?
I have been battling between a new GMT Master 2 black/blue "Batman" or an older Pepsi (preferred 2000-2007). Its my first Rolex and I plan on wearing it as my daily watch, therefore, I'm not looking for a vintage collector's version. I love the pepsi colors and ultimately have decided that it is the right choice. I wish I could get the WG Pepsi but thats still a few years away.
I have been keeping my out for a good deal on a 16710 Pepsi in good condition that was made in the last few years that it was produced. I found a 2007 Z series 16710 Pepsi without papers (w/ box and letter of authenticity from AD) for 5600 EUR (ca 6000 USD). It would be an amazing deal if it had the 3186 movement but this has the 3185, its a Z0XXX serial. Is this a fairly good price/idea for my first Rolex? |

Depends on if it has been serviced recently or ever. Without papers also lowers the price, most buyers want them. IMO you can probably do better, $5,500US would probably be more in line especially with no service.

No big deal whether 3186 or 3185 some 16710 GMTs with the early 3186 had a few problems now rectified by Rolex. The 3186 is mainly a 3185 just with slightly different top and bottom plate and different detent gear. And Rolex have never made a series of any watch thy are just case serials Z serials cases were stamped around may 2006 well into 2007 or even longer. As for the so called papers well that would be now just a out-dated warranty, if no service history budget for a service then you will have service papers that will be a full two year valid warranty.

I have not been able to find any later series 16710s (close to 2007) for a better price. I've been looking over the past few weeks and have not come across any great deals. This one for 6000USD 2007 version was a good deal, at least I thought. Any similar year/condition seems to be going for an extra 10-15% for box and papers. I was going to have an AD open it up and take a look before I make a final decision. I figure I will probably have a service done on it and would have those records if/when I decide to resell. How much do services normally cost on a 16710? So you'd say pass on the offer? Tough choices... one of the reasons I am still drawn to the new batman

The 16710 is a classic, it would get my vote, plus you could pick a up a jubilee bracelet at some point and have the ability to switch back and forth. I think the price is roughly $500 rich, or about 5% of the asking price.

Is there any way to tell if the bezel has been switched out from the original ? Or is this not something that really matters?

Only the papers tell you which bezel originally came with the watch, that's it.

It doesn't matter much since you can get a new bezel insert for 50 bucks at any service center.

Hi Larry,
I thought a letter identified the bezel colour? A - red/blue. B - red/black. N - black. Or did this vary by Country?
