Comex watch

Hello,

does anyone knows the "Comex watch"?

On the internet I can't find anything about it.

There is no such thing as shown. You can search the "for sale section" of this Forum for the real Comex.

"COMEX" stands for a French deep water engineering group " Compagnie Maritime d'Expertises ". In 1980, this company issued Rolex Submariners to its divers.

I can 100% assure Rolex have never made a watch like that so afraid its a fake and a very bad one.

Looks like an original Swiss dial, "comex watch" and the "coronet" (lifted from Cadillac I think?) were printed later.

Old, "spec" watch; not necessarily a "fake" but obviously trying to cash in on the Rolex look. Note there isn't even a separate bezel. More like an Omega than a Rolex in construction. Certainly a Swiss movement, probably ESA or ETA (depending on year of production) based on the look of the day/date fonts.

Pearl Drum Company made a lot of what are called "stencil" kits in the 60's and 70's. This is sort of the same idea.

Guys, isn't this like posting a picture of an Omega and you saying Rolex has never made a watch like that so it must be a fake...

Comex sounds generic enough that it can be one of the hundreds of "watchmakers" in the 70's who produced all sorts of swiss made watches. Most of them done by third party watchmakers.

This is not a fake, it's just not a Rolex.

To the OP: Not an expert, but I think your watch is a bad fake.

My point exactly :) It takes a sense of humor to associate this with cheap a seiko homage with a Rolex-ish coronet on the dial.

COMEX also stands for;

COMEX (Commodity Exchange, Inc.), a division of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX)
COMEX, a gold trust owned by iShares
Comex Group, a Mexican paint manufacturer and distributor
Commonwealth Expedition, a series of expeditions from Britain to India
Los Comex, a comic book imprint
Arapahoe Comex, a Georgia, USA based commodity trading unit
comex, the pseudonym of Nicholas Allegra, the developer of Spirit, JailbreakMe 2.0 and 3.0, and the Nintendo Wii exploit "Bannerbomb"

It takes a WIS to think Comex is a Rolex thing :)

Not fake, just one of many 60/70s brands. I particularly like it and own a few vintage watches of random brands of that time period. They usually have all the same Swiss movements.
Keep it, if it's stainless and you service it, it will look brand new.

Lol to y'all that keep saying its a fake. It's not a Rolex or any other big name brand but it's not a fake. It's just a watch made back a long time ago that either had a little fun with its "comex and Cadillac/Rolex looking emblem" or simply coincidently just resembles the comex Rolex in general since I'm sure the Comex Rolex wasn't a second thought to 99% of the population back then. Nobody knew about/cared about the Rolex Comex watches until well after the OP's watch was made.

It may be from the 60s-70s, but it's crazy how the "colors" and "look" sure do resemble a modern Milguass...kinda
