Houston Recommendations

I was wondering if any Texan TRFers could give me advice on good dining options in Houston. I'm traveling there for work the first week of December. It will be my first time visiting and I will probably be staying in a centralized location near downtown. I love all types of food. I'm looking for suggestions for cheaper lunch options like Mexican or BBQ and nicer spots for dinner, Italian, Steakhouses, etc. Thanks in advance!

BBQ check out Jackson Street downtown, original Ninfa's or Irma's downtown are good tex-mex. Underbelly and Hugo's are reasonably close to downtown for dinner, Reef is good for seafood and favorite steakhouse by a mile is Pappas, all dry aged in-house. Surprisingly I feel like Houston has a pretty good food scene... but that's just my opinion

For steakhouse I like Taste of Texas (local) Sullivan's, The Palm, The Capital Grill and Ruth's Chris. I know they are chains but IMHO the best.

Without writing an essay, Alison Cook also has an excellent list: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/ente...0-restaurants/

And here's good website: http://houston.eater.com/
Check out their heat map: http://houston.eater.com/maps/best-n...urants-heatmap

Or awards: http://houston.eater.com/2015/11/17/...ouston-winners

Some cheaper options in their 38: http://houston.eater.com/maps/best-h...restaurants-38

With so many great options, you shouldn't need to travel very far from where you're staying to find excellent cuisine. Enjoy your visit.

Taste of Tx is awesome for steaks, but a drive from downtown

There's a Pappas BBQ downtown, really good, anything w the Pappas name will be a good benchmark, pappasito, pappadeaux

Zydeco is really really good Cajun food

Kim son is pretty authentic Chinese food

All downtown

Downtown....

Reef for seafood. Actually am going there next Friday prior to our date night to see Nutcracker.

If you want to venture <5 miles from central downtown, which is nothing in Houston, you will be able to find Uchi, Underbelly, and many others off of Westheimer and in Mid Town.

For cheaper lunch breakfast options off of Kirby @ 59 you will find Goode Co. BBQ, Taqueria, and Seafood. They are all owned by same co. in same area.

Houston is really a great place for cuisine... Very underrated. Definitely recommend reading Alison Cooks site and going with what she recommends.

Outside of Taste of Texas, the rest are chain restraints and wouldn't waste anytime in them.

Pappas Steakhouse...chain in Texas but much better than national chain.
