First Incoming...?

So I have been a long time admirer of Rolex, particular the Submariner and Seadweller. Been on this board for a few years, admiring the photos, absorbing the information and vast wealth of knowledge provided by the members and staff here. But as of yet, there is no watch on my wrist.

Monday, November 16. I find the watch that I have been admiring for so many years. It is the year I want (V serial). I decide to pull the trigger, however the watch is in the United States, and I am in Canada. To lessen the sting of the currency conversion, I decide to use a foreign exchange. I set up an account with them, but as they are East Coast and I am Mountain time, they are unable to process the transaction that day. No big deal.

Tuesday, I contact the FX and make the transaction. All goes well and they tell me that the seller will have the funds Wednesday. Not as fast as just paying by Visa, but it would save me $400, so I can deal with the delay.

Watch is lined up to ship Wednesday, as soon as funds are received. Wednesday comes, however as it gets late in the day on the East Coast, and no funds yet, I call. They look into it, and tell me Thursday is the day.

To keep this short, the same thing happens Thursday. Friday they tell me the funds have been posted, but they have not. They start a trace to see where my money went.

So instead of spending the weekend admiring my fine watch, I am cursing my decision to save $400 and wondering when they will find my money.

Bummer Lenny! I'm sure you will be laughing when you finally get to enjoy your new rolex.

I typically use my chase visa in Canada (I'm from the states) and pay no foreign transaction fee and the exchange is usually pretty decent.

It's amazing how often this kind of thing happens, even in this day's age of technology. I had a US bank cheque destroyed by a bank and had to re-send the money last week. Frustrating..... I hope it works out for you

I phoned the foreign exchange every day for an update on the transaction, after the money did not show up when they said it would. And every day they would look into it, and say, "oh, they should have the funds tomorrow". Except Friday, when they said we need to start a trace and see where the money went.Boo lol.

Monday they were able to confirm that the funds had left their bank, however the seller had still not received them. A few more calls, and late in the day they were able to locate the funds. A couple hours later they appeared in the sellers account! Quite the ordeal.

The seller contacted me, and was able to catch the fedex guy Monday night! Then the 3000 mile journey finally began!

It'll be worth it in the end. My stress levels would have reached near critical in such a situation ! Looking forward to a pic or ten

Now you have to be prepared for the duty when it gets into Canada. Since you're in AB it won't be too terrible, but be prepared to pay an additional 10% of the CAD value of the watch.

Maybe they were trying to get a lower rate before sending the money.
But now the watch is on its way. That's good to hear. I will wait for the photos when you get it.
Congratualations!

I was a lot more certain the funds would be located than my wife was! Glad I didn't have to eat crow though.

Yes this was what I found when researching the purchase. Not that I agree with it, but it is what it is!

Also, got a nice email update recently:

I was also very lucky to be working with such a patient and understanding seller. I may now hold the record for slowest payment!

If nobody was home but the dogs, are you saying that "nobody" signed for it, and FedEx just left it on the porch because nobody was there to sign for it? If so, you need to call FedEx and tell them what there driver did, and how bad it could have gone. I speak from experience with Fed Ex drivers leaving items that had "signature required".
