resale value of AP grand prix

Hi Guys,

I'm considering picking up the ROO grand prix. I am constantly trading/selling pieces of my collection depending on mood. I never look at watches as investments but it's nice to know that I can move a piece with relative ease and not have to sell/trade at a deep discount. Not sure how much of a market there is for a limited piece like this? At it's current price point I think it may be a very niche market and most WIS would rather acquire something else for $30-35k. Curious what you guys think?

resale value of AP grand prix

Funny, you bring up the GPC as I'd been negotiating on a RG GP and learnt quite a bit about its market position. You are definitely right it is a very niche piece even more so with the carbon case & bezel not standing up the rigors of everyday wear. The market is soft in my estimation. You can find a decent one in good condition for 27K, but you got to look hard. I know of dealer that has one I can guide you to him. One without box & papers runs 22-3K. Good luck on the search. Hope this helped.

I don't know about resale... But what a killer piece... Especially if you install the ceramic bezel and black date wheel. I would never sell that baby if I owned it!

Used ones with bad condition cases go for around $23-25k

will AP replace the side of the case? with Ceramic one's as well? of course if assuming if they are worn? I've seen some RG that look very awesome with the ceramic bezel replacement

here's my story : I bought a grand prix carbon 3 years ago. I had a disappointing experience. the watch was running slow by about a minute a day. the bezel was as fragile as an oreo cookie. the bracelet quickly ages. is it a beautiful watch? you darn right it is. I saw several others in person and they as well were showing plenty of wear and tear. if I were to get a grand prix I'd go for the rose gold and would look to get a ceramic bezel from AP.

I have never seen one with the side piece in ceramic. Keep in mind, for the most part, that area would be as sensitive to wear and tear as the case would be. The bezel is what gets routinely gets hit, so it would make sense for them to make a replacement in ceramic.

remember the loss of value is limited by the cost of having a new carbon case and bezel fitted, something which is offered by AP

it is not like a steel or gold watch, was reported here a few months ago that new bumble bee case goes for around $2,000 + a service, so can imagine for this watch would be similar cost, plus another thousand for the bezel

have seen some very abused examples of this watch i.e. not much left of the bezel at all .. may look like resale value is destroyed but just send it in for a new case and bezel, and its worth the same as a pristine example

Well Having seen quite a few half destroyed I wouldn't even think for a second getting one, even if AP changes pats free of charge, I expect my watches to not disintegrate, a few things were said about other FC AP models and their lack f resistance, but this one beats all the records when this happens, any other high end machine of any sort being so fragile would see a recall from the company, can't see how one would even consider such a piece when you have great ones for that price

If you know how to justify the material flaws by AP, replacement parts are sometimes free even with no warranty. Some guys went through and were happy afterwards.. Search the older threads for their ecounters. If u take everything should be paid for then it will be. I have got a friend whose watch is under warranty and the watch stopped the next day after he took it off. he sent in but AP workshop says warranty void, reason being the watch shows knocks on the watch body near the crown screw and that damage the watch, told him to pay for the repairs. Of course, if u persist hard enough, they will hold their warranty, whIch they did so after a few emails to top management.
