Rolex Watch Insurance in UK
My home insurance is up for renewal and they are refusing to insure my white gold Daytona due to the high value of £25100.
They said other home insurers may consider it if I get a British rated safe installed, pay around £50 per month extra premium and have the bracelet clasp tested regularly. They will insure my Breitling Chronomat 41 for £6750 and my wife's Rolex for £4000. I don't want to fit a safe, have the clasp tested or pay an extra £50 per month. Any recommendations for stand alone watch insurance specifically for my 116509 for the £25100??

Yes most home insurance won't cover that amount in uk under contents and you'd have to always have the watch on your wrist also in many cases. There are specialist watch insurance companies highworthinsurance, tarrat etc but do I know enough about them to give you a recommendation - no.
Ask AD who they would recommend or even at a Patek boutique and try that route? |

Also typically if your home contents is valued at say £50k something over 50% of that value they typically won't insure - you could try increasing contents to £100k and then seeing if that'll include the watch? They may also have a limit like £10k on single items which rule that out- otherwise as I mentioned ask AD or Patek Boutique for recommendations

My home is insured through Chubb. No problem adding my WG Sub onto the policy or any of my other watches.

Also try a home insurance comparison website such as compare the market. You put all the details in and they'll bring up all the companies that will insure you & their premium.

Try NFU, they insured both mine and my wifes watches plus my guns and optics. Didn't bat an eyelid.

All these companies will ask for a safe and alarm, and for it to be on your wrist when out the house to cover them from any loss other than a robbery which at home would mean taking the heavy safe or outside being robbed - they are covering themselves so they get money for minimal risk. Even if you were robbed outside your home you'd have to prove you did everything possible to prevent it in the first place - insurance companies always have a way to worm out of paying but home insurance by likes of Halifax, nationwide etc or your own mortgage provider is probably the better choice than an independent insurer I would say. Let us know what you do

UK home insurers normally insure high value watches with a few dodgy caveats. A lot of stand alone insurers have the same terms. 1. The watch is only insured in your house if you are either wearing it or it is locked in a specified safe. If you leave your watch in a drawer and a burglar takes it - your loss. 2. The watch has to be on your wrist 100% of the time when out of the house. There are no exceptions to this. Even hotel safes are excluded, you have to wear it whilst sleeping. I have an old fashioned safe that is 3ft high and 2ft square. It is not specified because of its age, but no one will ever break into it and it took 3 of us to lift it into the house. In effect I am only insuring the watch I am wearing. Regards Mick |

That makes sense on the safe. The young kid in the phone told me I had to pay £4000 for a safe!

My sub and wife's datejust is insured through esure, I think it's about £60 extra a year for both watch's as specified items.if not being worn it has to be kept in a safe which they are.

That £300 safe is about as secure as a shoe box. Forget it. It's a waste of money.
Call inSafe in T. Wells. Get a decent one with an LA Guard tumbler dial combination. Pay to get it installed. Mine cost approx £1800 10 years ago and I wouldn't be without it now. Call Hiscox for a quote on insuring your watch. |

They did indeed mean this however the young admin on the telephone stated 'I had to spend £4000 on a safe' I thought it was very strange!

That's an expensive safe. Seems odd they would insist on that.
My safe is just about $1,000 and it's a beast. Anchored to the floor too. Anyone gets this safe, they deserve it. But even getting through my doors and into my recently installed alarm would not be easy. It would have to be a professional theif. And nothing in my house is worth the effort for a real professional crook.

Update: I've ordered a £4000 cash rated safe and my home insurance at the moment will add the watch for a further premium of £200 which is fine....but they may insist on a fully monitored house alarm, I'm waiting to hear if the safe will be sufficient so I don't need a monitored house alarm.
