The rotation of watches...

Given all of the problems in the world I'm almost ashamed asking this question, but anyway;

Today my collection consists of around 10 watches. Four are the core of the collection; one Rolex BLNR, one Omega Speedmaster, one Omega Master AT and a Sinn chrono. I like all of these, but I can't find a way to rotate them. If I put my Speedmaster on, there is something calling from the safe tempting me with the GMT. If I put the GMT on there is a feeling on missing something that I get with the SINN.

Again - I realize that this is a really stupid problem. And I guess my question is - how do you rotate your watches if you have several that you love? Wearing on until you grow tired of it and changing it to another? One day/one watch with a great amount of dicipline?

Now, I typically wear the Smurf from Friday to Sunday evening. The others are put in rotation throughout the week. I'll probably end up selling a few once a platona lands in the collection. We will just have to wait and see.

I wake up, shower, get dressed and pick a watch

Easy... I pick the watch I want to wear in the morning, wind it up, set the time and put it on (unless it so happens to be what I was wearing the day before then it's grab and go). All are readily available for me to get out of the watch box so no bank run to grab what I want. I do however track what I wear mentally and wear each watch at least 1-2 times a month. Other than that I let them wind down and sleep until the next time.

I swap them around during the day.

I pick a watch to wear for the week and then at the end of the week change it, or keep it. This also depends on what I am doing for the weekend. If it is something that is more rough and tumble, I will wear one of my SS watches.

Thanks!! I've started conversations about the Platona and will hopefully have one within the first quarter of 2016 (depending on how hard I get hit on taxes. I'll know more after talking with my accountant). Most likely will end up moving Kermit. I made a big mistake and bought it as an "investment" piece. It's a shame having such a nice watch just sit and not see wrist time.

gotta admit the Platona has really stopped my rotation!!

every time I wear something else I ask myself why am I not wearing my Platinum Daytona!!!

so to the OP maybe downsize or consolidate to a Grail level watch and you may not want to "rotate" as much!

I have a collection of 5 watches SubC no date, AP 15202, AP 44mm FC, Patek 5712 and 5164 the way how i rotate my watches is through what i feel like wearing or where i am going.

I know how you feel and could easily wear the Smurf all the time. However, I don't think I would be so happy with it if it wasn't for my journey through SS. Like you, I am a Rolex guy. Other brands just don't do it for me. The OP may need to take his own journey to PM....with enabling from us, of course!!

Good to hear, my friend and can't wait to see the incoming in early 2016. The platinum Daytona is a major game changer and as Tom mentioned above, you probably will be wearing that beauty more than anything else, or maybe it is all you will be wearing!

My collection was similar to yours at the end of 2014/beginning of 2015, but started to change when I got my Day-Date as I that was my go to watch almost all days of the week and just didn't wear any of my other ones. You gotta do what you gotta do and only you know which ones will stay in your collection.

I have a similar issue with trying to choose watches to wear; I feel that they should all have opportunities for wrist time. I tend to wear my ones without working lume on the weekends when I'm working nights under florescent lights. I tend to wear the others when I actually get to sleep in the dark and can use the lume in the night's darkness.

I seriously believe that it should be as simple as doing what just feels right; for some reason I keep adding shoulds to my choices. The good news is that having multiple choices and a rotation allow the watches to get less abuse and stay newer looking longer.

I know how you feel. I have an Omega Planet Ocean, Omega SM300 Master Co-Axial, Omega SeaMaster vintage from 1962, Rolex DJ, BLNR and a Yachtmaster. The truth is, since I got the BLNR and the Yachtmaster, the rest have fallen off the radar a bit. I had a Tag Heuer Calibre 16 that I just gave to my nephew for his birthday. I'm going to give the Planet Ocean to my son for Christmas and I think the vintage Omega to my brother in-law.
I really like the Sm 300 so it will stay and the Rolexes will all be staying.

I guess the short answer is, I have pared down my watches so it's easier to decide. The BLNR is the daily go to watch, the SM 300 is for rough work and the Yachtmaster is for dress. The DJ will be for weddings etc. It was a gift from my parents almost 28 years ago for graduating from university and gets used on very special occasions. I might get a PM Rolex someday but they don't suit me very well and they'll look like crap after I wear them for long. I'm hard on watches I guess..

I try to rotate my PMs during the week and wear mostly SS on the weekends unless I'm going out to dinner or an event. Dr. Tom is correct about the Platona; it always feels right, and I feel guilty putting it in the safe. Most of you know that the Day-Date is my favorite watch due to its beauty, but the Platona gets more wrist time for its presence.

Thank you!! I am very fortunate to be in a position where I really don't need to sell any. If I decide to sell, fine. If not, fine. That just means this guy will have an even bigger collection. And YES, I'm the one who put him in the trash can. It was a clean bag.

That is an awesome collection ! I would have a hard enough time rotating those pieces, nevermind if a platona was mixed in too.

I used to wear one watch for the whole week, and then the following week pick another watch for the whole week, cycling through them all and starting again.

Now I wear a different watch each day during the five day business week. On weekends, I just wear my Explorer. I hope to add a 14060 or 14060M and put that in my weekend lineup.

I only have 2 Rolexes right now and a few other pieces from other brands. I tend to rotate based on activity I will be undertaking. For example, those days when I'm primarily in offices, I choose my TT GMTc. When I'm in the field visiting manufacturing plants or projects sites, I tend to choose my SS Sub or one of my other pieces.
Even though I love watches and thankfully have the means to acquire more, I have resisted the urge to do so because I'm not particularly interested in having a safety deposit box or safe full of watches. I get my enjoyment from wearing them. So far when I've been enticed by a different style or model of watch, I have flipped to acquire it. Not saying I'll always do that and I would never flip my sub. The GMT is rapidly acquiring permanent residency but I do have my eyes set on a green sub and BLNR so time will tell if my collection grows and I too have to become more deliberate about a rotation scheme.

This, exactly. I wear one until I feel like it would be nice to have a "new" watch.

1) The whole POINT of having a collection is so we don't have to spend money every time we want something new. :)

1-a) If that means that one doesn't get worn for months on end, I'm fine with that. The time passed makes that watch that much "newer".

2) If, over time, there is one that _never_ seems to get picked as your "new" watch, it's time to flip that one out of the collection and go for something really new.

I usually grab one in the morning and go as well. I have been guilty of planning the night before on several occasions though
