Rolex Exploer 2 (white dial) ref # 216570

Was at the mall recently with my wife and walked in to an AD just to browse and to have a look at the Rolex Explorer 2 (white dial) 42 mm ref # 216570. I am considering it as my next Rolex purchase, although not from that particular AD. During the course of my conversation with the rep, she informed me that this model is no longer being made by Rolex and that it is discontinued. I immediately doubted the validity of her statement and I could so far find nothing to back her claim up. Not sure if she was just pushing hard to make a sale or whether she actually believed it. Anyway, has anyone else heard anything that supports her claim?
Here is an image of the model in question:

I wonder if the rep was mistaken and referring to the previously discontinued model that was smaller from a few years ago?

But even if that's the case, if you are going to consider yourself a Rolex expert (as she was referred to by her co-worker) at a very well known AD, she should know the difference.

On another note, was having dinner with a TRF member about 2 weeks ago and he heard from a very reliable AD that 116610LVc was put in slow down mode at the factory to either cause more demand or....

I'd like to know if they are really in short supply across the globe.

Haha. That's funny. Gotta love AD salespeople. Some are very sharp but not usually.

Either a salesperson without the correct knowledge, or trying to stimulate demand by artificially limiting supply!

Not all are enthusiasts like us, but she should know her stock. If you were showing interest, she may have pulled out the pitch. Hopefully she wasn't being dishonest, either way, I'd pull the trigger with a salesperson you are comfortable with and want to give business.

Since that rep obviously has an inside line, you should go back and ask her what Rolex is going to do at Baselworld next year.

Salespeople will say anything to try and make a sale.

Go for it, I have an EXP II Polar, and it's a great watch to trade off for wrist time with my Sub C.

Highly doubtful this was based on any facts - go for the Expy though!

That's the same line she uses on her dates...

Buy it only because you like it. I've had mine for a year and it's a keeper for sure.
I recommend it highly.

I traded mine a few years back. Worst decision ever.

Loved the size, legibility, comfort and presence.

…..that's why I'm getting another : )

Wow, I have a 216570 Polar but am picking up a GMT II as a second watch, not replacing the Polar - my wife got that for me, keeping it forever.

Common sales tactic at poor ADs. A Rolex should sell itself
