Do we have an official DRSD thread?
I know we have a general 1665 thread, but maybe one additional dedicated to the double red as well?
Please share your photos below! |

Let me say that johns mk4 is actually new old stock.... Not worn.... As if it were pulled from shop yesterday. I had the great fortune of holding it at the 2015 North American advisory board summit. Amazing. Oh, it's also a full set.

Absolute beauty, John - amazing. Any chance you have, or could take, an end-on photo of the CGs on that puppy to ease my curiosity, please? I'm constantly perplexed by the seemingly massive scope in the shape of the CGs on 1665 cases. Some look very thin and pointy, and I doubt it's always down to polishing. Others I've seen look more like CGs on a 1680. I know the thin case on the earlier ones is entirely different anyway (including apparently narrower CGs), but there seems to be a wide spectrum in the profile and thickness on the other cases in the following years on this ref. It would be great to see some 'NOS' CGs if possible. Thanks!

Even the CGs I've seen in some Rolex brochures and booklets look narrower and more pointed than some others I've seen, so it's a bit of a mystery to me. Attached are examples of what I mean. The first pic is taken from a 1973 Rolex booklet. The second image is of a NOS which Eric Ku once had at 10pastten (it went to Jed, I believe, and has now moved on again) The third pic is of an allegedly 'unpolished' 1665 also. These CGs definitely look narrower than on my unpolished 1680 - mine is the last/4th photo, for comparison.
