It takes a worried man .
Happy New Year to one and all . Here's my cause for concern , the high cost of servicing and repairing Rolex and Tudor watches . I am 73 years old , still working but planning to retire when I'm 75 . My income is and will remain modest . My watch doctor can no longer get parts from Rolex , but can still carry out simple repairs and servicing , up to a point . He too is contemplating retirement.
If this happens , I can be in trouble on two fronts , should my !675 (1968 ) or my Tudor Sub , (1979 ) require any work that involves parts , I might find myself unable to pay large bills . It's a genuine worry and I wondered if anyone else shares my concerns ? . |

The Tudor will be easy for some time to come and the market for parts on the GMT will allow options for a while as well. They do not need to be handled by Rolex and Rolex is less likely to want the work anyway. Service them ,wear them , and enjoy them

I think you have a legitimate concern as when you likely bought the watches (if new) they cost no where near what they cost now. And even factoring in inflation it does not add up. As mentioned, the I don't think the Tudor parts will be an issue with the ETA based movements. But with the Rolex parts they are clamping down but there are still several parts account holding service people out there. My AD has 3 certified watch makers on staff and another apprentice that will be ready to go soon.
My AD was also a Mont Blanc watch AD and the dropped the line as MB would not send them parts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm not sure about the Tudor but for the Rolex watches there are truly millions and millions of watches around with the same parts. There are enough spare parts for many many many years without ever having to bother about going to the Rolex mothership. A basic service every 5 years should work out at around 10c per day - I wouldn't worry about it too much to be honest.

If ur watches r in good condition, they r probably worth more than 10k combined. Spending a few hundred to service is totally worth it. As mentions parts r readily available, so no worries there. I wouldn't send vintage to rsc if I were u, due to cost n protocol.
I blame it on the autoconnect. |

Rsc charge relatively small amount for Tudor. My big block chronograph needed replacement crystal, hand put back on and service and in total it was just over £300.

Have them serviced by ABC, Rikki or any other reputable watch techs. That others recommend from this site. They should last you for many many years of service afterwards. Like others mentioned do not send to a Rolex Service Center. It will come back looking new but with service parts. Post some before and after shots my friend? Good luck.

Mailing his watches to the US to be serviced by ABC may not be an option due to living in Scotland.
Cheers, Lawrence

Seriously Andy, at our age, just wear them.
Who cares if they are running or not, IF THEY LOOK COOL? With apologies to all our older Mods.

Watches such as these should only be handled by RSC. Remember, he lives in the UK, not the US. I think the Tudor would be too old though.
