Wow! RSC quote on a replacement bracelet.

Yesterday I called around to find a dealer in my area who might service a stretched bracelet. I found one who did and they said in order to quote it they need to see it. So I packed the kids up and headed north. When I arrived the sales lady said I need to get a replacement. I then told her I called and a nice lady said they did do it. So she went and checked sure enough they did do it. And she then came back with a quote of $2500. Well I explained how I was a forum member and there was places I could send it for the same service for $1250-$1500 minus shipping fees. So with the help of an owners son who I have worked with before we agreed on a not to exceed price I was comfertable with. But while standing there the lady asked me if I knew what a new on cost. And I said I would think around $8000. She then chuckled and said the bark finish is more and she had quoted one for a client and it was $16000!!!!!! My watch was made around 79' I understand it is solid gold but holly crap $16000 for a bracelet. I was floored. And then I thought to myself now I know why I buy used my budged obviously isn't big enough for new. Here is a pic of it on a brown leather as it will be for a month or so and I must say the leather just doesn't do it justice.

Have to agree with that especially with anything diamond or precious metal.

I totally agree, but people still seem to be buying, so why would they change? It's hard to believe how expensive stainless steel models are.

Rolex has gone a bit greedy when it comes to service/parts.

16k usd buys you a DJ and a Submariner! It's not gold but it's 2 fine watches Im getting for the price of a gold bracelet.
Also, 16k usd buys you almost half a kilo of 24k gold.

After, knowing this, if I ever buy a Day-date it will be jst the head and I ll wear it on a nice leather strap.

True for many products and services. Those that can afford them get to pay more. Anyone remember the days of $350 full RSC services .

I'd turn right around and send this bracelet off to get repaired elsewhere...

I believe in using a local shop if possible. In the end it will cost me about $200 more to use the RSC. And it is nice to have someone I can go talk to if things aren't right. Not that I'm to good to want to save $$. But I can sure as heck tell you I wasn't gonna get a new bracelet that is for sure. That's $9200 more than I paid for the whole watch!lol

I was quoted $1600 (plus shipping from Switzerland!!) for a 93150.

That was book price PLUS shipping! For a stainless bracelet with stamped end links!

I found a seller on here with a near-mint one for half that. I saw the book, and couldn't believe he wanted to charge shipping too! Total robbery!

Send it to Mike Young. I have a C&I heading his way soon...

Expensive? No doubt.

in comparison to PP or AP though, how do you all think it compares? Obviously the overall price point is higher, but there's still plenty of MSRP overlap with certain models. I was always intimidated to jump into to either of those brands because service alone I heard would be 2 or 3 or even $4k+ depending on the watch and required service.

I don't see this mentioned but Michael Young does an excellent job of rebuilding bracelets. I believe his cost for a rebuild on a President is $1200. Sure beat the new bracelet price.

Wow! RSC quote on a replacement bracelet.

Well she SAID $16,000 and you believed it? This from the same woman who didn't know her own shop would refurb a bracelet... The same one who quoted you $2,500 for the refurb?

Well I wouldn't put too much faith in her story - oh, I'm sure she prolly quoted a barked president at that price, but I'm not so sure she had it right.

Now at even $8K you could buy a period correct gold watch with a decent bracelet and then sell off the head and have a decent replacement for about the cost of a repair. An then melt the perished one to boot.

Mine won't be on a strap for long. I believe the $1200 is plus shipping both ways. So it's $2-$300 more so I chose to use a locally owned place for the extra cost. Plus I got them to agree to not exceed $2k so I was happy with that and then I have a local shop guarantee on the work. But hey I'm a sucker for gold what can I say. I felt it is a reasonable cost for such a labor intense job. Also my bracelet wasn't horrible it was stretched yes but not ragged out. So I'm sure they took this into consideration when I argued the price a bit.

And yes I thught about that buy a donner watch. 9k for the watch sell the head for 4.5k and scrap the old bracelet and get 1.5k math is still 3k for the bracelet and a whole lot more work not my idea of fun. I'm just saying what the lady said to me.

Rolex is out of their mind with prices. I'd go with a nice leather band. Your watch will look elegant.

I also think your DD would look awesome on a butter soft ostrich band, with a 18kt Rolex buckle. Nothing wrong with a DD on Leather, it's a sharp look...

I checked with Reed's Jewelers who checked with Rolex for a eplacement bracelet for my 1967 5500 Air King. The price was &800. I think I can use an aftermarket or a strap.

At $16k couldn't one find a decent pre owned bark...use the bracelet and sell the watch to offset part of the cost?
