Purchasing MB Mesterstuck 149

Hello,

I am looking for purchase a MB Mesterstuck 149. I really appreciate if someone could PM me what discount I can expect on this and also suggest an AD in the US.

Thank you!

I would not expect any discount from an AD for a 149. They are just too desirable.

I have 4 149s and have never purchased one of them from an AD. Ebay and FPN have been my resources. The Green Board is also relative but many are duplicated here.

The first thing you need to determine is what nib do you want. I have one extra fine and one stub italic which is my favorite. A couple of them are typical nibs that I purchased at a wonderful discount but that is for a future post.

The best discount I have ever encountered from an AD was 10%. I walked. Glad I did as I found what I wanted from FPN at an average of a 40% or more discount.

I have no problem purchasing MBs from our members here and I know that their condition is as described per their reputations.

Good luck on your search. The MB 149 is truly an iconic pen and well worthy of acquisition!

Richard

Agree with Richard. There are used 149 on sale in FPN regularly, go there and check.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I will check out FPN now.
My idea was to find a 149 and a MB ballpoint which I can take when I need to fly. I worry that 149 might leak on the flight.
Thanks again!

My current 149 has never leaked in over 5 years. I don't think there is any problem with 149's leaking these days.

Also Ebay is a good place to look for a 149 at a good price. There are a lot more on offer than FPN.

Which nib would you recommend for 149 if it's your only MB fountain pen?

I would recommend an oblique medium if you can find it. If not, I would look for a medium and then have a nib meister work it to a left oblique.

A MB 149 is a golden goose to write with. When you put an oblique nib on one it becomes a diamond goose and will serve a lifetime of satisfaction!

I have a 149 fine that I loved, but then took it to Sherrill Tyree and had her oblique it to the left! Just an incredible difference if you like things like line variation and color shading. Again.......superb!

Keep in mind that a 149 fine is like a typical MB medium.

I also have a MB 149 in a stub nib and it is also delicious! I hate having two of the same pens that demand equal attention! But again... that is the Aquiles heel of fountain pen love.

Wow, Thank you guys! I didn't even know these fine differences exsisted. Can one purchase a 149 with an oblique nib already? What is 03B or OBB stands for? Should it be oblique to the left if I am right handed?

Thanks again a thousand!

First try the nib which suits you best in boutique.
