My Shame is Great

Chaps

I have often moaned that all gold watches are loud and vulgar and the provence of a cad.

So what have I done, this week I will be popping up to London, with my wife, to buy her a solid gold ladies Datejust as a reward for putting up with me for 45 years. Even worse, it has a diamond dial, so I suppose I have really slid down the slippery slope.

I feels somewhat perplexed.

Regards

Mick

Men wearing gold and diamonds maybe.

Now a man covering his wife in gold and diamonds that's another story..

Congrats on the 45. Great gift for the Mrs. You too will grow to love hold. I wasn't a fan at first. Now I'm slowly transitioning my collection to PM pieces.

Get some extra links so you can take it for a spin and post some wrist shots :)

Congrats to the wife, for the watch and helping an old dog learn a new trick.

Perhaps I am a loud, vulgar cad...very well if you say so and I am quite good with that.

But congrats to your wife in advance - I am sure it will look very nice! Also congrats on 45 years!!

I don't see an ounce of hypocrisy in your purchase. My wife and I have completely different taste in jewelry and watches and it appears the same with you. Although I would never wear a watch with diamonds (I don't have any negative feelings toward those who do) I certainly hope to get one for my wife someday. I also hope to celebrate my 45 anniversary some day as well. A big congratulations to you on both accounts.

Gold and diamonds on traditional women's watches is a different kettle of fish.

Rolex "ladies'" models are more-or-less miniature versions of the larger Oysters. I think Patek did a good job with gold and diamonds on the old "La Flamme" watch (quartz movement notwithstanding), which was unmistakably feminine at any scale.
