How many wrongs make a Rolex?
Fellows auction have a 1974 Rolex, it looks OK but the condition report states some scary things:-
1. There is an issue with automatic works, watch will need a repair/service 2. Dial appears to be in a poor condition with noticeable marks, scratches, tarnishing, some lifting of the laminate. Possible water damage 3. Luminous inserts have degraded 4. Non-Rolex diamond set bezel 5. Crown screws down and is not currently functioning correctly 6. Non-Rolex bracelet/clasp Est around £500, looks like hardly any original parts left and they are not working properly. Question is how far gone can a watch be to still make it worth purchasing, I have been looking for a birth year watch for some time now. |

Photos might help. But based on your description, this watch sounds like a nightmare. I suggest you continue your search.

I would want to see pictures, but based solely on that description I would pass.
I am looking for a 1975 birth year watch and it has been hard to come by a decent example that is not stupid money. Stay patient. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd steer clear of that one.
You should be able to find decent examples for a reasonable price. |

SS DJ. 4.5m serial. 1603?? Been keeping an eye on a couple GMT's from that serial range. Not a huge fan of the thunderbird, not sure why. Probably because most you see are 2 tone which is just not me. I have seen an all SS gray dial that was pretty awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I guess your're down to the movement, midcase and caseback. Movement needs a ton of love. Given the ice bezel it's probably a DJ? If the case is good I could see a long term project where you source used parts and come out OK but it's a stretch
