116610 Vs 116334

Hello gents,

I made my debut on TRF a month or two ago with my newly acquired White baton dial DJII. I have always been a watch guy, and I purchased the DJII because I had grown up around a relatives Submariner (steel) that I got to wear from time to time. I wasn't too fond of the smaller sub and paid no attention to the newer ceramic sub until I tried it on the other day at the home of a friend of mine.

I now am faced with the thought of trading my DJII for a SubC. I like the iconic, rugged look. I also am beginning to appreciate the cool factor of a vintage 5513 or 5512.

Do you guys think it would be wise to trade for the SubC? Anyone done this trade, or the reverse? I know they are very different watches, but in my opinion they are actually more similar than one might initially think. The DJII is dressier, but is great casually, and the sub is sportier but also great when paired with a suit.

If you had to choose one, which would it be?

75% of people pick sub in a poll. One person recommends to save and add the sub. Next person says to follow your heart. I just saved you a lot of time, next thread please.

Edit: take a month to mull it over and try on as many ss sports watches you can at your local AD and buy what you like the most.

He's spot on, though.

I lived near the ocean when I bought my Sub. Pretty simple. I added a vintage DJ later.

Haha. I have read around the forum enough to know you're speaking the truth. I actually wore the SubC around for an hour or so the other day... I love the rugged looks, the heft (definitely heavier than my DJII) and I certainly don't have to be as delicate (no PCL, etc).

Let me add another element: If I'm ultimately gunning for a BLNR, would the sub hold its value better than the DJ? Or have I already lost whatever I will lose on the DJ2?

Haha! I chuckled when I read his post as there is often humor in truth!

The sub will hold its value much better on the used market. However, the process of flipping watches can outweigh this factor if your not careful. If you have to take a large hit selling the dj2 then the value retention of the sub becomes insignificant in comparison. Fyi, the sub and Daytona seem to be the safest buys for longterm resale value. Currently the blnr is top dog for short term resale.

Your dj2 took the initial depreciation hit by "driving it off the lot" which equates to removing the plastics. You could keep it for 2 years and probably sell it for the same thing you could right now. Unless you physically beat it up. So take your time, and figure out what you really want. Good luck!

Edit: if you are gunning for a blnr just buy one instead of flipping for the sub? Use a trusted seller like davidsw.com if you cannot find one from a local AD
