My rolex feels a bit too shiny, and I was wondering if there's a safe way of dulling down the shine without affecting it's value?

Modding it will definitely affect it's value. No way around that. Do what you want if you plan to keep it, but dulling it is going to put a hit on the resale price.

Natural patina, wear the heck out of it 24/7. All the minor scuffs and swirls will eventually mute the "shine" you dislike.

A member here, SC11 (Sam), modded a 114060 so it is now all matte with a matte ceramic bezel insert. It looks deadly!

Agree, Sams Submariner is killer, I wouldn't have the stones to do it.

Thanks guys appreciate the comments I know modding a Rolex isn't to everyone's taste, unfortunately the watch has gone....

This is its current evolution, just had an email from my watch maker on its safe arrival so hopefully updated pics late next week once the works completed

I DLCed a GMT II to get the Pro Hunter look ... would I do it again? No, I would not, I thought it was cool for a while, but a classic does not need modification ,,, i wonder how much it would cost me to have it reversed.

Hope this doesn't come across as condescending, but if you wear it a lot, it should achieve what you're looking for. All the little swirly scratches, micro scratchs, not so micro scratches and everything else in between will evantually give your watch an almost stone washed look.

There are plenty of members here who can attest to that.

Once it's worn-in, it should not look/feel nearly as shiny.

Have you considered the Pelagos? It has the satin finish on the surfaces that are polished on the sub.

My 116600 fills the slot for that! To be honest I the lug to bracelet profile of the SD and it kind of put me off the 114060, oddly though with the BLNR the lugs are not as pronounced but then I find the PCL's help hide this!
