Sub with date and without -- decision

What would forum members say? Is the date window worth $1,000.00?

To me it is absolutely worth it - I am HUGE fan of date complication and an even bigger fan of cyclops on the crystals.

Don't put a price on it though... It'll never be worth it if you look at it that way.

Personally like the cleaner look with no cyclops, though both are great.

I never realized how important a date was until I had a Daytona. Was one of the factors in selling it eventually.

I wouldn't put a price on the date but at the same time I wouldn't personally get a sub without one.

If you ask this question a year ago, I would have said yes. After wearing a watch for 30-40 years with a date, I missed it at first when I got the Daytona. In fact, this was one of the reasons I was disappointed with the purchase. Funny thing is that, in just several months, I prefer to wear the Daytona more often because the date is absent. My eyes are not as young now so not having to set the date every day is a good thing.

I don't think the $1000 is a factor. You have to decide if you need a date on the watch, especially if this will be your daily beater.

Thanks for those responses. One added point -- I can get a used new model Sub no date for less than 6K -- it's in superb condition, near new.

All depends on whether you need the date. I like the look of the no date better, but I need to have a date on my watch. I must have some type of mental block because I can never remember the date, and I need to know it for many different things at work. I'm not always at a computer to look, and outside of work I don't carry my phone with me that much. So the subc with date is the one I got. Would have loved to have saved some money on no date version.

My personal opinion is that a daily wear watch must have a date - i use the date window often for work etc. However my dress watches do not have a date because i am using them on a special ocassion when i am "living in the moment". The date does not matter to me at this time and i can enjoy the beauty of a clean dial.

I have more than one watch, I tend to wear a different one every day. I love having the date, but it means setting the watch (I sold my winder, am not a winder-guy), so I often grab a "time-only". If I ever decide to trim the collection to three watches, I'd keep the date-sub, but as long as I have more than three, I have both and wear both at different times.

Don't make money the issue, go with what you like best. As stated above, if it is an only watch than a date may be more practical, mine is part of a collection and a weekend wearer most often so date not required, although I do prefer the aesthetic of the Sub c vs the date.

I would go no date especially if you can get a great deal on excellent condition pre-owned.

If it's going to be daily watch, then it's got to have a date. For just a weekend watch, probably no

Absolutely not. But if you want a pretty colored dial, then you have to get a date. Which is why I have three, right now, so far.

Blue today. Pretty.

Yeah not just about needing the date but also taking into consideration the cleaner dial of having no date. In the end, I chose this...

It is a very personal decision. For some time I felt like I ALWAYS had to have a date function, it is handy when dating a document or writing a check. However, I rarely write checks anymore and if I forget the date, my iPhone is right there to check anytime. In the case of the Submariner, I would choose non-date, it goes with the tool watch design on which it is based, just my opinion. Additionally, if you have multiple watches and don't have a winder for each one, it is very quick to grab a non-date, give it a few winds and set the time only.

I can't live without a date on my watches and i am a huge fan of the cyclops but... for me, a sub shouldn't have the date. The addition of the date was a worldly mutation imo.

it's worth it to me. I work from home, so I'm constantly trying to figure out what date it is. I find that people who have a more routine 9-5 don't really need it as much.

All comes down to your decision and preferences really. If you don't think you need it than no, it's not worth it.

That all depends on your taste and the use you want to give to the watch!
