I like it and wish Rolex would include clear backs on their watches. One question: Are you concerned at all about water-resistance?

I personally don't like this. It's not a decorated movement and there really isn't much to see back there. True diving watches have never had sapphire on the caseback. But I suppose it's a GMT :) congratulations on the new look, I am sure many people will like this

Indeed.

Sean, the watchmaker down at the Piccadilly Circus Tube Station, was very surprised to see a very good quality crystal, how well it was made/put together, and how well it fit. He vacuum tested it and said leak was "minimal". Then he said "All OK", and that he really liked it and had never seen one in his 45-year experience. All of that for just £2. Obvoulsly I'll swap the original caseback before I take it for service.

Nice one Danny! I like it a lot!

If you're interested in watches with clear case backs, check out the Tudor North Flag

Great caseback I've them on two of my watches. The Rolex movements are decent looking enough for display.

Looks good!

Does the overall profile stay the same width or is the glass caseback thicker?

Last time I looked at the back of an Omega Planet Ocean it had one. I'm pretty sure it's a capable diver, what with being rated to 600m and all.

interesting concept on a Rolex...the 'see through' back is generally reserved for more sophisticated movements.

The lack of decoration part is I think more important to note. Omega's have intentionally prettied up their movements and used the clear case backs to market their new and improved great movements. The movement in a first generation planet ocean is much more Spartan.

Agreed, although I responding directly to the statement that said true diving watches have never had a sapphire back.

That clear caseback was probably more than this see through Seiko!

The colored gears are cool but jeez , Rolex builds their movements like Caterpillar does their engines, bulletproof but ugly.

I would send it to Bas or Mike with some rubies and gold and see what magic they can conjure.

I had a nice clear case back on my 16710. I used to enjoy looking inside the movement.

I took the watch to my local RSC and they said if I wanted the warranty after the refurb of the watch, the original case back would have to go back on, but even the guy at RSC thought it looked sharp with the crystal back.

Yours looks nice.

I like the look, but "minimal" leak is a MAJOR red flag with WR. Do not, ever, swim with it.

It definitely looks very cool. I wish Rolex would do it with all of their timepieces. I would love to see some detailed high definition pictures. Thanks.
